  • LMNH is gone?!

I think they show racing here but you’d need to check with them: https://www.coaldropsyard.com/vermuteria/

Edit: looks like one small screen. Can’t remember if there’s more and if they have the sound on.

I’ve had good success before just going to pubs I like and asking them to put it on. Is only usually a no-goer cos of Wimbledon or cricket.

  • That's what I thought - JV relentlessly attacked their rival (who has never previously shown weakness) and he lost more than 2 minutes. How's that anything other than job done?

  • Cheers for that. Mainly because you've corrected my total error - looks like LMNH is alive and well so I'll be going there!

  • The coal drops yard screen was showing it yesterday. I wouldn't expect it to be full of racing enthusiasts tho...

  • Although they brought back Majka, they brought back Roglic, Kuss, Van Aert, along with other teams that would have GC ambitions to share the pressure on Pogacar.

  • I agree with @Fox - JV’s scorched earth strategy paid off yesterday. But some of the tactical decisions didn’t make a lot of sense at the time.

Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see if they pay for their efforts today. They went all in yesterday and today they’ve got the responsibility to control the race. The opening hour is going to be intense.

  • Do you think they’ll look to control it given there is only a minute between 2nd and 7th? Personally I think I’d mark Pog, he’s still the only one I can see overturning the deficit and taking time. Ineos pose a potential threat given they have two riders in the mix.

I think it’ll be tense even if nothing happens.

  • The yellow jersey comes with unwritten responsibilities, one of which is that the leader's team controls the race. They could not do it, but it could backfire on them.

The chances of the break taking the stage win today are very high, so anyone who wants a stage win will go in the break. That will include riders who are relatively close on GC, i.e. someone like Vlasov, so JV won't want to let them back into the GC race so will keep the gap manageable.

  • I've been to Alpe d'Huez. Not recently.

  • Unwritten rules seem to be slowly disappearing though.
If you explained the situation to an outsider I doubt they’d come to the same conclusion our biases arrive at.
I think the unknowns will make today interesting it could also end up being a bit of a squib. Either way I’m very much looking forward to it.

  • I've been to Alpe d'Huez. 2011.

  • My trip, 2001. No idea who the rider is, he doesn't seem to figure in the results...

  • I won't @ you Will, but that first picture is great.

Probably the bike would be in bdhu for some crime against something.

I also like the Coca-Cola sign a lot.

  • Why was Lance at the side of the road wrapped in an Aussie flag?

  • Waiting to see when Sepp Kuss is deployed in anger; today or save him for the week 3 mountain finishes.

  • Shame Thomas still hasn’t moved on from those sunglasses.

  • We had his drugs.

  • Looks like there'll be some nudity. The parties are well on the way.
And then there's this boss and his homie riding the mountain on old fixed wheels wearing wool gear

  • And 2019 the easy way

  • Here’s a shot from 2013. Was right next to where we slept in the car, just down from Dutch corner.

They did the mountain twice. Tejay cracked and Riblon won. Kept a copy of L’Equipe.

  • I have some photos from that race but I can't even tell if it's France or Italy. I should've enabled location embedding for the pics during races, then I'd know where they were taken!

Anyone recognise these locations? Any of them AdH?

Second pic is definitely after riding Galibier at night because I have a pic of the pasta I ate in Valloise. Yep, so those gravel roads are probably the gravel approach to Alpe d'Huez - it matches with the tracker

The church is Chapelle de Cluy
