For some reason I thought Deceuninck?
-
• #23903
What happened? He signed for UAE
-
• #23904
Yeah but why did DQ let him go? When they signed him he was the hottest property in sprinting, seemed destined to win MSR and a hatful of Tour stages, then he quietly left Quickstep and has gone backwards ever since.

I don't know about if they pick up sprinter-specific injuries often, but I would imagine they crash more frequently, given the nature of bunch sprints.
-
• #23906
They let him go like Terpstra due to budget issues. I think he wanted a certain amount and Lefevre couldn't or wouldn't do it in the timeframe Gaviria wanted so off he went.
He's not had a great year but still has 4 wins and some more podiums but he's only got 30-odd race days.
-
• #23907
How come they didn't take him to the Tour?
-
• #23908
Tired after the giro? Peaking for the Vuelta? UAE are a bit of a shitshow?
-
• #23909
He was injured
-
• #23910
UAE riders seems pretty open about it that something isn't right performance-wise on their team at the moment. Read somewhere that it was partially due to a sponsors energy drink, but that can't be the only thing.

• #23911
Liberation was also also stirring shit after UAE soigneurs were spotted buying a load of motorway sandwiches before a long transfer during the tour and said they had forgotten to make food for the riders. Strongly denied of course.
-
• #23912
If he was injured it makes sense, but if not you take your best sprinter to the Tour. Its what you pay his wages for.
-
• #23913
Wasn't it Dan Martin saying that?
-
• #23914
I think so. Can't remember where I read it though
-
• #23915
Yeah it was something like they switched to a new drink just before the Tour and it meant the riders were retaining fluids or something like that. Ridiculous if true.
-
• #23916
He was injured, crashed in training.
-
• #23917
I wondered if it was something to do with the fact UAE had started working with Jeroen Swart.
-
• #23918
I forgot they're just Lampre rebadged with a load of old school Italian staff.

Nibs off to Trek-Segafrado

• #23920
Remco!

• #23921
Beast of a ride. Get the feeling Sagan will be outshone now..
-
• #23922
ridiculous

• #23923
Someone went back to rides he did when he recorded power on Strava and found a 426w 23 minute uphill TT effort he did in early 2018. I hope his power meter was over-reporting cos that Contador level.

Would explain why he was simply riding away from the entire peloton in pretty much every junior race he was in.
Doesn’t Richey Porte have a similar monster engine at similar weight and build? I remember a TT being 400w+ for 20m at 61kg.
Which is why he’s always been a ‘favourite’ for grand tours.

Van Aert and Van der Poel to replace Sagan.
We have yet to see Remco’s sprint finishing ability, but peloton beware any breaks he finds himself in.
Have no idea if there are already stats or knowledge out there about this, but I wonder if sprinters are more prone to injury a la track (running) sprinters due to the type of specialism, and so have shorter runs of success? Similarly are track cyclists who specialise in shorter events more prone to injuries?
