  • @coppiThat

thanks for posting that April Fools thread Gerald, fond memories.

    Bright Times would be ace.

  • I keep coming back back to this

I am truly sorry I missed Le Reej.

I'm going to pop by when I'm back and have a drink in his honour.

  • Googling images of dmczone brings up awesome images of bikes...

  • Towards the end on friday, it was suggested to do a vintage jersey ride for Dwayne (see picture CoppiThat posted earlier on this thread). Who wants to find a route and start a list?

  • I guess I should change the logo back to blue, but it doesn't feel right.

  • Agreed. Whole-heartedly.

  • It's gone back to blue.

I felt that 5 days perhaps wasn't long enough, but worse still it's thankfully been a while since there's been a death on the streets of London and statistically it's overdue. I didn't want to find myself in the position that we needed to go black, but were still black.

DMC Zone isn't going to fade in hearts or memories any time soon, the logo change doesn't diminish that.

  • Sad news. Condolences.

  • ^what a gent and what a bike!

  • Oh God, I've only just seen this. I held him in the fondest regard and this is just the sort of news that makes you sag. So young, too, shocking and unexpected. I'm doubly glad that I saw him so often in the last year or so.

I first met him on my first visit to Wests, at the Crabtree, and was just bowled over by his friendliness. He was 100% unpretentious, genuine, friendly, and welcoming. He didn't just sell you a T-shirt, he made you feel as if it was really important to him that you'd wear it and enjoy it and that he wanted you to be happy. There were so many funny moments, too; I still remember his face when he had to confess that the font on the first 531 edition had been too thin. He had a great sense of fun and understood irony wonderfully well.

It's not really in my gift to comment on style, but I'll always admire people who can keep their possessions so immaculate, and Dwayne took that to the next level, too. I haven't met many people who were better listeners. He had insight and was so passionate under his quiet, understated demeanour that you could always feel his desire to do good. If 531 was awesome, Dwayne was 531c. I'll miss him lots. Part of the heart and soul of the forum.

  • Farewell DMC.

    A thoroughly lovely forumenger.

  • Fantastic shots, thanks! Especially the last one!

I was just playing a French song by Georges Brassens, called "Les Copains d'Abord" (friends first), which describes so well friendship, just like the one we have on this forum. I'll leave a translation below, found on internet (they are english fans of Brassens apparently, who translated a lot of his songs... he did a concert or two in the UK I believe...)
I wish the song was in english originaly, as, when I hear it in french, it feels so accurate, like if it was written about us.
The verse number 6 is about when one of the friends passes away, how the other will never forget him. As the song was playing, it instantly made me think of Dwayne... I wonder if I did not already posted that when Fiddy went... Sorry if repost then...

[edit] post was way too long... sorry.
A short link to video and translation is better...

  • Such a great photo, thanks for posting G.

  • And that is how we'll ALL remember him: sharply attired with a big smile on his face.

    Thank you CT.

  • I think that was the first Tweet Run? Legend.

  • i believe roxy took the picture of dwayne on his kingsway

  • Only just saw the thread, I was thinking about him a while back and how I hadn't seen him in a long time, no matter how shit your day was rocking up to Wests and seeing that big smile coupled with a Guinness, never a dull conversation or a complaint.
    You will be missed Dwayne.
