hi scherrit!

The float on my Keywins isnt as smooth as I'd like. Catches a smidge on one of my feet. Probably need a service. But its still resistance free float conbined With a super solid connection. I am tempted by Speedplay. But other than an extra side. I'm not sure what they'd give me.
I actually have mine set-up slammed back (although not mid-foot). Feels Perfect.

Where were the cheap Speedplay?
-
• #255
There were here: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/speedplay-zero-stainless-pedals/ but have gone back up in price now :(

• #257
Anyone got a spare set of relatively lightly used cleats?......
-
• #258
Joined the club, picked up some pedals for £12 and spent almost triple that on cleats. Seem alright.
-
• #259
Or just even a couple of screws from the cleat, not baseplate?!
-
• #260
You won't LOOK back.
-
• #261
Bad pun is bad
-
• #262
I might do in anger when I have to buy multiple pairs of the worlds most expensive pedal and cleat system for other bikes.
-
• #263
But you just bought fancy-schmanzy aero Looks for the TT beik!
-
• #264
Yeah then I found out how much Xav's CdA dropped when he switched to Speedplay.
-
• #265
Link?

New position, with Speedplays.
-
• #267
So the gain isn't simply from changing pedals then; you'd think most of it came from the new position.
-
• #268
Yes, but what if the new pedals facilitated the change...
-
• #269
A New position that requires the free float of a speedplay. When you didnt need it before?
You're not exactly selling this.
I Guess for TT-ing, thats OK. You lot distrust Comfort anyway. And I Guess he knows what hes doing. -
• #270
Stack height and opened hip angle.
-
• #271
That might increase power or comfort but how would it change aero, unless he moved his torso lower at the same time?
@xavierdisley - are my Speedplay pedals faster? Might there be a reason not to hate them so much?
-
• #272
Dunno, aeros work in mysterious ways.
-
• #273
If his graph just said 'pedal change' I might believe it but it's talking about a position that's barely holdable which makes it sound far more than just a pedal swap. And you were telling me to do testing! pfft! :P
-

I dont really understand how lower stack height could give more Aeros.
Speedplay do custom axle lengths though. So providing you're not a duck footed pedler. You could achive minimal Q-factor. From his posts on here. I'm willing to bet Xavier was minimising Q-factor.
My initial knee jerk reaction that the float allow a more contorted position. Was probably a little off the mark.

Nah, he probably just reduced stack height and so dropped no, wait, increased saddle height. Q-Factor is important but I thought the axle swaps were generally for people needing to go wider not narrower.
The rocking problem is an interesting one, some rider get it early and often, some not at all. I would suggest that it may be individual degrees of twisting IN the pedal stroke. Using the stainless wear protector plates seems to help (i.e. the wear is in the cleat backing/ baseplate -I don't like the term adaptor), and reducing the free float might help, also keeping them clean and lubed seems to help. No pedal system is perfect but these really work for me as a rider (now an ex-rider to be fair!) and as a fitter they enable me to fix most rider's problems. The Keywin road system is very good indeed, I rode them with a track lock for a few track seasons, and used the mtb pedal for about 10 years (insert customary Scherrit moan about engineering vs marketing led companies here). The speedplay advantage is being somewhat eroded by the fore-aft moveable nuts in some shoes now so I have to put fewer clients onto Zeros mid-fit, but double sided-ness counts for an awful lot, too.
