Depends how sensitive people's knees are to the change. I'm a macro-adjuster and don't notice/can get away with large changes - to a point. Q-factor is technically just the crank width so I'd think about skinnying them up and leaving pedals the same so I don't get heel rub. Not sure I care to ditch 2-race-old DA9000 though.. .

Trying to sprint on the fatbike feels like I'm on one of those XC ski machines at the gym. So I'm not totally deluding myself.

Take a dremel to Your heels. They are obviously the limiting factor here, not the cranks.
-
• #280
Doesn't necessarily mean it's bad - you've had no adaptation to it. Bikefit thread>>>

Or I could just squeeze my feet into those Bont aero shoes or do the feet wrapping thing the Japanese used to fetishise.
-
• #282
You can get them off ebay for cheaper than a £100 still.
-
• #283
New? I usually buy the cheaper ones anyway and they're usually under £100. It's the stainless ones that add price for basically no gain.

These are top of my want list at the moment. My Vaypor plus are holding up fine, and I just installed New cleats. So its not a priority right now.
I was thinking of getting speedplay specific ones.

Bont don't work for midfoot so I'm out. Pity, I thought the Chronos would be ok.
-
• #286
Don't think they do speedplay specific soles anymore :(
-
• #287
I thought the slots the bolt holes run in went pretty far back. Not midfoot far perhaps. But, as far as I have mine cleats currently.

I've only really been looking on Ebay. If thats true I might buy sooner rather than later.

Not midfoot.

what size are you? I've got some vaypors in 44.5 if anyones interested
-
• #291
43 wide officially. Currently in 44 wide and content. But wouldnt want to go bigger.
Unless some great deals on pedals/ shoes come up. I'm going to hang ten for a bit.

No worries, was always gonna be pot luck. Well if anyone else is interested, pm me

Lower stack height is a good idea from a biomechanical point of view as you can apply force at the pedal axis without introducing an extra lever and therefore instability (imagine pedals with 10cm of spacers under the cleats).
I'm not going to go into how I've got my CdA <0.200m^2 - all my rides are public on Strava though so you can see all of my aero testing files if you want.
Back to Speedplays I've just totally wrecked a pair - right hand one has what appears to be no bearings inside now and the left hand one won't turn. Might try and get a set of the track Zeros, but I've been alright so far on the track (pursuit bike) with the regular ones. My sprint bike has Keos but I may switch.

So I bought a set of Zero Track Specials from Probikekit for <£100 with various discounts - I can barely tell the different in release between them and a normal set of Zeros. Certainly not "extra stiff" or anything, feet still come out relatively easily so IMO not worth it over the regular ones.
Looking forward to seeing when the aero versions come out and if they are in fact more aero or not!

How can you tell? I suspect that there is way too much noise in the system to tell really if their is any real aero benefit on the road over a standard Zero (or Pave)--- perhaps with the new cleat (whose calling for many of us has nothing to do with aerodynamics).

Chromos for £76 on ProBikeKit, register a new account and use code FIRSTUK to get 10% off.
-
• #297
If they're cheap enough I'll be able to test them on the track. I can get very high resolution so if they do help I should be able to detect it. Not worth the tunnel time.

I've got a pair of ti-axles (ward/ti-spindles ones) for sale, speedplay zero ones, no flats, just hex wrench, £52 posted each, pm me if interested
@umop3pisdn you mentioned them in your WW bike thread, interested?
-
• #299
I would be but I can Taiwanese axles of eBay for £28 a pair so I'll probably go down that route given my budget, cheers.

No worries :)
I run Keywins With extra short axles for reduced Q-factor. So i was looking into getting short axle speedplays if I did switch. Thats more from the point of veiw of having tiny legs, than Aeros though.
The epic Q-factor on the fatbike feels absolutly fine though. So its probably one of the many factors that over think.
