  • whereabouts are you? it takes me a week to see my GP!

Glasgow seems quite pro Independence, Aberdeen seems pro Union

Edinburgh is full of Londoners, old money and Scandi tourists so they don't count

  • being from glasgow and spending half my life in london for economic reasons (as well as the weather) i think "why the fuck not" i saw how grim glasgow was in the 80s and how nice its become since devolution, but its taken years and there is still work to be done elsewhere . i feel its a chance to start again who cares about the implications financially or otherwise , scotland can stand on its own , we dont need westminster , westminster is not what the scots voted for , english people take note london is london , london is not england , london is not interested in the rest of the uk apart from taxes !

  • life cannot get any worse for british people living outside london and the south east ,and scotland can do something about that , so they should !

  • I'll be voting yes and hope that a lot of the 'I'm not really too sure' votes convert into yes votes over the coming months because right now they seem to be no votes.

  • no they shouldn't, they should stay and be just as miserable as everyone else

    #splitters

    I agree with these sentiments.

No matter what, Scotland is a country by it's own right, the lands and seas and all that lay within them, of Scotland belong to the Scottish, no one else.

This "Great Britain" nonsense from Westminster is rhetoric designed to suit themselves, the remnants from a bygone era of oppression and empire. You can be sure, that, as with a unbalanced relationship, the person with the upper hand (Westminster) takes what they want when they want from the weaker person (Holyrood). There may be a slight struggle, but the more dominant person always gets the upper hand.

Andy Murray isn't British, he's Scottish, so is Hoy......British when they're winning....Scottish when they're loosing.

I watched 'The Wright Stuff' clip and that Kate woman must be a daily mail reader, (or one of those horrible right wing papers) reader. Of course such a economic and political split will cause serious disruption, but surely a slight disruption in the grand scheme of things is worth being your own master.

In the end, no matter how the statistics are twisted and what poison Westminster spouts, Scotland has to start on it's own two feet. It's grown up enough to move out from it's parents house and get it's own place to live and be it's own master.

I'm not a nationalist and i'm not Scottish, however I don't believe you can be in control of your future if someone else is pulling the strings.

  • P.s. Keeping in mind the information and technological age we are living in Scotland will have the opportunity to possibly try something new, for as we can see, the current democratic capitalist system we have in 'London' relatively few favor's the wealthy individuals above all else.

  • So, about this EU..

    can opener meets worms

  • because Cornwall and London aren't countries with their own parliament

  • I think Shetland are keen as well, with the bundles of oil getting found off there shores.

  • I've got my info about Scotland from here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland. What are you using for your sources?

  • Eightball I am in Edinburgh. EH7 ends.

Its exciting times here, talk of revised welfare bills, drug laws, healthcare, industry and commerce.

Nobody I have spoken to has mentioned the military thing either, I dont think Scotland is planning on fighting any oil wars any time soon.

  • Jeez, do you actually re-read what you write before posting?

  • Let's face it, independence is necessary before Scotland can go on an armament drive funded from oil revenue and can invade and conquer England. You do realise that that's what they're planning?

  • Can this thread be made into a poll?

  • Whats the exact question again...

"Should Scotland be an independent country?" ?

  • the referendum question yes

  • Can this thread be made into a poll?

probably should - not sure how you do that retrospectively?

  • probably should - not sure how you do that retrospectively?

Dont think its possible. Just create a new thread and the mods will megamerge.

  • Make the poll question the same as the referendum question, yes/no answer.

Please do not include a "dont know / dont care" option...

  • Who gets to vote in the actual referendum? Is there an actual referendum? Ah, 18th Sep.

You can't include non-Scots in the poll so it won't be a fair representation.

  • Scottish residents get a vote.

    This to be exact

    British citizens resident in Scotland.
Commonwealth citizens resident in Scotland who have leave to remain in the UK or do not require such leave.
Citizens of the Republic of Ireland and other EU countries resident in Scotland.
Members of the House of Lords resident in Scotland.
Service personnel serving in the UK or overseas with the armed forces who are registered to vote in Scotland.
Crown personnel serving outside the UK with HM Government who are registered to vote in Scotland.

  • Should Scotland be an independent country?

  • it's gonna be a pretty narrow poll if we don't include everyone?!
