  • Oh, and 7 tickets remain for sale via the store.

  • Would it be in order to suggest this to friends who are not on the forum?

  • I think it should be kept forum. First outing, let forumengers have the option to take the places and participate.

    imho etc.

  • If, on the other hand, having nonforuengers means that DK doesn't end up subsidising this out of his own pocket, then surely that's a good thing? After all, the nonforumengers may be awestruck by the beauty, charm and wit of the forumengers and become instant converts to the LFGSS cause.

  • Oh, and 7 tickets remain for sale via the store.

Phew! Nearly missed this! Just booked newbie ticket...

  • P.S Those travelling by train who haven't visited the velodrome I advise to get to stratford AT 8am LATEST!!!! because most of you will spend 5 minutes walking in the wrong direction, 20 minutes walking to the velodrome, 5 minutes at reception and 5-10 minutes getting changed. Those extra minutes before the session is very important in getting the right size bike, and getting to know one another.

Any more questions, give me a shout.
    Jason

I'm coming in by train and will be in later than 8am (ticket booked already). Care to give directions to save me getting lost? I'll change on the train in and run to the velodrome as a warm up :)

  • Leave the station. Walk up the hill, away from the Westfield shopping centre. The Pringle's on the left, over the brow of the hill. Once you're over the brow of the hill, you really can't miss it.

  • Mandatory gearing for all riders on taster sessions - 84” (47x15 or 50x16)

I'm trying to make my bike compliant. I tick all boxes so far except for GI (also, I need to make sure tyres are OK).
Currently running 49X15. I would like to avoid changing / finding a new chain ring, am I allowed to approach the required 84 (82.7 with 49X16) or should I be exactly spot on 84? Just trying to sense how strict it is, will do whatever I'm told in the end...

  • I had a rather roundabout discussion with various people on the taster session thread, before Rob intervened with an actual answer

Branwen, use whatever you have to get close to 84 without buying anything new?
Bear in mind you will be riding with people on hire bikes so if everyone is on similar gearing it makes group riding much smoother

  • Thanks, that makes sense...
Not sure if 82.7 would be considered close enough... I already have spare spockets, will try to buy / borrow a ring, don't want a detail like this to prevent me from riding my bike...

  • If, on the other hand, having nonforuengers means that DK doesn't end up subsidising this out of his own pocket, then surely that's a good thing?

There's only a half dozen forum spots left, they'll fill up by the 19th.

  • @veLLo I'm on the same gear at the moment, thought I might use a 14t cog on 47 but that's way big (for me) at 88".

I might have a couple of decent 49t (144bcd) knocking around, if you want to borrow one for the day ... I have to return a tensionmeter to you anyway.

  • Just moved to London and interested in the taster session. Excited!

  • Would it be in order to suggest this to friends who are not on the forum?

    Yes.

Forumengers and LFGSS CC members (those who put down LFGSS CC as their club on British Cycling) only.

This is a club session, not an open session. LVP runs open sessions already. I'd rather lose some money.

  • Thanks, I'm sorted for this now.

I'm already on a 49T ring, with 15T sproket at the moment, my bike was always on that... But I just bought especially a 50T ring (from Countryboj this morning actually, nice meeting you, nice Cannondale!!) Then I had a spare 16T sprocket so all is good on that department now.

Checked BB height and I'm spot on at 11inches.

Just a matter of sourcing tyres this WE and I can't see why the MBK shouldn't be legal. We'll see what coaches say, I booked with bike hire so all options are covered.

Just to clarify, I'm a forumenger only (although I booked session thru LFGSS CC site): is there something I need to do / register to prior to showing-up on the 19th?

Sorry for being a nuisance, I have not had too much time recently to explore all the threads on the matter...

  • There isn't anything you need do, you can be a club member without being a British Cycling member.

  • Looking forward to this now.

  • I will be there but only to spectate :( as I will have my kids with me and they can't be trusted on their own!

  • I was a bit confused when veLLo posted about gearing, thought I was set up ok with 47x15, since the bike specs posted earlier read:

•Mandatory gearing for all riders on taster sessions - 84” (47x15 or 50x16)

That's a typo then? Should read 49x15 or 50x16, yes?

  • Ah ignore me, vello was wrong. 47x15 is a bigger gear than 50x16

    /C in maths at 16+

  • I will be there but only to spectate :( as I will have my kids with me and they can't be trusted on their own!

I'm going to spectate too. If you need someone to "babysit" your kids while you get on your bike, please PM me.

  • Shoosh, I might call on you again for velodrome spectating babysitting duties if thats an open offer...

I get the (wrong?) impression that none of the group will be accredited when we are riding... has anyone else done Track 1 or 2 out there?

Is it a good idea to divide up the group into some vague / general categories, e.g.

    1. never ridden a fixed gear bike before (I'm assuming we all have but you never know)
    2. never been on a velodrome (indoor or outdoor) before
    3. been on a velodrome before but new to this one

or similar? If I'm being a splittist dickhead then please say so, I am just thinking out loud.

  • ^ I was thinking about this the other day. At least, given that there are two hour-long sessions, there might be groups of people falling roughly into the categories of 1) would quite like to work on some skills that will be tested in the accreditation, and 2) JUST WANT TO GO REALLY FAST.

Also, I note the weather is looking, how you say, biblical for Saturday morning. Would anyone (who maybe was thinking about riding there until they looked at the forecast) be interested in splitting the cost of a Zipvan in SW London to transport bikes and riders?
