I've paid. I'll be going for Track 2. I'm happy to pay extra money for more track time.

More track time - yes please. Don't care if I stay uncredited.

Balls, fuck and shit - I can't go for the taster session - would anyone like to take my slot?

Am now accredited, but the last hour is gone now. Might come to watch....I like to watch

(and maybe get 1-2 done?)
This should be doable.
Velocio if you can talk to the trainer beforehand, I think that would be useful for us.

Possible... I'll speak to Rob and see whether he thinks it's feasible.
Bear in mind... there will be 32 of us, and only 16 on the track at any one time... so if all 32 want the extra hour, then it's only 30 minutes extra on the track. If only 16 want the extra hour, then they get the whole hour.

Euph?
ha - no, unfortunately ;-)
Anyone interested in taking my spot? £25 for the non-accredited ..........

OK. I suppose it depends on how many come. I wasnt thinking that it is still more than a fortnight away and the empty places will have filled up a bit more.
Taken:
12 unaccredited placesAvailable:
20 unaccredited places
16 accredited placesHas anyone else done Track 1 already and moving on to Track 2?
The ability range of people doing the Track 1 session we were at was very varied. Some people v confident, others wobbling all over the place. I think that our group will have a bit more experience and confidence than your standard 'tasters' and would progress quicker in the time allotted.
If it doesnt happen that we can do Track 2 it's fine, I like just being up on the wood.

So i've done a 4hr hour course at Southampton Velodrome which basically gave me accreditation but i don't have any document supporting it.
Am i able to book onto the Stage 1 course? Or will i get removed to the newbie course?
Anyone in similar position?

Stage 1 is the newbie course. Same thing.

I meant Stage 1 taster course
There are 4 stages, 1 is the taster/newbie session, open to allcomers and to check you can ride brakeless and fixed. 2/3 are skills and 4 is the final assessment. After that you're free to ride as you like...

Stage 1 = newbie course = taster session
All the same thing afaik

Yes, but I got sent straight up onto the boards and told that as long as I kept above the stayer's line, I was free to just trundle round and keep myself amused. #boastpost
Would be good to get stage 2 out of the way at the LFGSS day though.

Yeah likewise, me and ms.chris and a couple of others were instructed "go wherever you like" very early on. I feel that (given the nature of this forum) our group will pretty much be all at that stage already. Of the 15 or so of us who did track 1 the other day, only 4 had been on a track bike before.

^&^^ Do you two ride brakeless? I wondering how much scarier it will be without the reassurance of a front brake (granted that on the track there are no red lights or junctions to stop for!).
-
• #298
I dont ride brakeless.
The point of having no brakes on the track is so that you can't / don't stop suddenly (causing a crash), you just bring yourself slowly to a stop over time.

Hi guys, I'm accredited, I also work at the velodrome part-time and would be interested in joining this (and future sessions). Just wanted to answer any questions, give my 2 cents on the procedures, rules and what I have seen with other clubs that have booked 3 hour sessions..
There are usually on average 25 - 30 riders per club session all taking turns on the track. For future reference you can't split the session - if you tell reception that you are part of the session after 2 hours have passed they won't let you through the doors - everyone taking part should be on the track centre and ready 30 mins before session starts. Coach will give a health and safety/ fire alarm briefing just before the session starts - and if you miss this you wont be allowed to ride the track.
Lets say there are only 2 accredited riders and 30 unaccredited, it should still be split into groups of beginners (taster), intermediate (stage 2-3), advanced (endurance/sprint drills) all taking turns. I'm assuming there are quite a few hoping to do "tasters" and not many sprinters. As a sprinter myself we only do 3 laps - 2 warmup laps then a flying 200, followed by a 10 minute break so essentially 2 minutes on the track at a time, but at maximum effort no longer is needed.
3 hours is more than enough time for 32 or even 48 riders. The longer the resting period between each effort, the better form everyone will be in and less chance of an accident.
Also the velodrome is very spectator friendly. There is a car park, cafe which overlooks the bmx track and I'm estimating that there is open seating for around 1000. Kids are allowed on the track centre if there is no other parent/guardian.
To summarise, clubs mix riders of all abilities, ages and genders which is good to see and makes a club a "club". Separating tickets for accredited and unaccredited looks to have confused a few people and I would recommend £27 for 3 hours with bike hire and £16 for those with own bike, whether accredited or unaccredited. If bikes will be checked (they won't) it would be done in the 30 minute period before the session starts. Just to mention I did my taster, stages 2 and 3 on a 94' gear and used a hire bike for my stage 4....
P.S Those travelling by train who haven't visited the velodrome I advise to get to stratford AT 8am LATEST!!!! because most of you will spend 5 minutes walking in the wrong direction, 20 minutes walking to the velodrome, 5 minutes at reception and 5-10 minutes getting changed. Those extra minutes before the session is very important in getting the right size bike, and getting to know one another.
Any more questions, give me a shout.

Now you are confusing things.
As a club we had spoken to the coaches at LVP and had asked and been granted permission to run the first 2 hours for unaccredited riders and the last hour for accredited riders with the coaches not only approving this but offering to structure the session around that format.
Not that it now matters, as people booked for the unaccredited session, and no-one booked the accredited so it will now be a single 3 hour session with the difference in costs being covered on the day by those wishing to stay on the track the last hour.
On the prices, thanks for your input but if you do the sums you'll see your prices do not add up. The raw costs of 3 hours with 2 coaches (the minimum permitted by LVP is 1 coach per 16 riders) including bike hire stacks up to £989.30 for 32 riders... or £30.92 per rider assuming every single slot is taken, no-one drops out, and everyone pays. Which means in real terms it is a higher price than that. If you would like us to use your recommended prices then please show how it is viable.
I've shared the raw costs and calculations here and am already basing it on selling out and having a lower than 10% drop-out rate (perhaps unrealistic, meaning I personally end up subsidising costs):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SE6yzz2SjdncPtd_3EFvW5T9FvIFn73HBAnCa4Bp1yQ/edit?usp=sharingPlease do not confuse things, things got confusing already as we booked the session way in advance of LVP hiring coaches and all of their policies and prices settling down and some of the information early in this thread reflects that. We were already subject to things changing as those things settled, and that was confusing enough.
The info on travelling is extremely helpful though, so thank you for that.
Same - would be up for more time on the track.
