We lived on that hill 1996 to 2000, with twins first in an ancient Silver Cross pram and then in a tandem buggy. Our fitness fell off quite dramatically when we moved to the flatlands below.

I was towing a trailerbike and an eight year old.
Have you since replaced this child with a lighter one? -
• #255
No, strangely he's going to be a nine year old this time, and bringing a commensurate body mass growth with it. The bleeder.

but after a winter spent on the rollers (no TV, no lie-ins) he will have a greater power output, no?
-
• #257
Maybe you could swap over this time and let him do all the work.

I have images of you two descending by facing up the hill, locking, in a forwards motion but skidding backwards....
Initial it was like 'how steep can it be'
Then 'OH S***!!!'
Whilst skidding downwards, I can hear indra saying ''my lockring is slipping!!!!'
DOUBLE 'OH S****!' (plus maybe a little poo)

Rollers ... shudder. < Donotwant >

it is easy to go around canonbie, I confess I always do...
-

Yep, the sunshine tells me that's the descent to Honor Oak Road, where brakless will be put mightily to the test.
I never descend that street except by walking, not even geared with two brakes.
Going down it brakeless is definitely an experience me and indra will probably won't do again!
I thought we were doing it again. awks.

Met Police have contacted me to say they recovered a black Brompton in Islington last October with a London Classic sticker on it. If this is anyone here please PM me and I will forward you on the the handling officer.
The brompton is back with its very chuffed owner, all thanks to a little red sticker.
As for the Canonbieberg its the swift follow up of the Muur Van Eleetsbergen (Eliot Bank) that aways kills me.

Nothing 'little' about that sticker.
Wonderful news!
As an aside...
Canonbie, I can live with. (ride)
Eliot Bank is almost certainly the 24" gear for me. -

Great news about the brompton!!
Elliot Bank was quite something with a trailer. But doable.
-
• #265
Elliot bank is interesting- I'd use my Serotta (it is set up for cobbled classics, after all) but the top section of Elliot bank means I'll ride my cyclo-cross bike.

No option then, you'll just have to buy a team car.
Having done it several times on a track bike with 23mm tyres, it's fine.

Elliot Bank got me as well. I didn't know it was coming, and was too keen on Canonbie. This year I'll be wiser.

It's fucked right now. But whatever, you can ride a trackbike down a flight of stairs if you really want to.

I don't think I can to be honest. I used to ride my MTB down flights of the stairs in the 90s when I was younger and my limbs were less breakable :)
I have ridden the Orrell down the ridged brick 'descent' off the pedestrian bridge at Bow Locks and I can safely say I'm not doing that again...

I'll be on the brooklyn with 35c kojacks and a front disc. Perfect.

If you've done that, then you're a greater man than I.
I've usually walked it.

Greetings and love folks,
When first reading Dave's post about the found the Brompton, I thought if it had taken me from April to October to get from Gipsy Hill to Islington then I would have given up also. Now I realise the bike was lost and is now found that is such a great news story...
Canonbie Road is pretty epic. This chap has just spent 6 weeks climbing to the top
What an achievement!!!
Give thanks,

Here is the view from Peckham Rye Common
It gives you more scale from further away.....

Here we have a cyclist half way up the aforementioned and pretty epic Elliot Bank
It's much easier to practice riding up it in the preceding weeks. I did last year, geared and fixed, then skipped it anyway on the day as I was towing a trailerbike and an eight year old. We made it up all the others fine.
