  • He hasn't turned a pedal in order since LBL.

I'm pretty sure that he hasn't forgotten that it's first one pedal, then the next one. In fact, it's almost like turning them simultaneously!

  • GT won the Knödel Tour!

  • I read that peice: Froome is pulling rank I reckon, Porte is looking good? How exactly? He hasn't turned a pedal in order since LBL. And even when he was he wasn't looking as strong as the year before. If Wiggins doesn't start in Yorkshire it will be down to Froome blocking it, and he'll be getting some boos from the side of the road from me if so.

I don't know, maybe the same way Saxo knew Rogers was good enough to ride the Giro after several months out? And Wiggins is the one who withheld money from Froome and then did sweet fuck all to support him in the World Championships last year, who hasn't raced with Froome all year and is suddenly keen to help him? He might be sincere but Froome doesn't owe Wiggins anything at all. If he can do without him in the team then why risk it?
On the other hand if you are going to boo him from the side of the road then I can see that that would be devastating for him and probably ruin his whole race.

  • Froome is pulling rank I reckon

If anything Wiggins is at a higher rank, being a Sir.

He's legally entitled to whack Froome with a sword if he wants. Set a pack of hounds on him. Lock him up in the Tower of London. Brad's a powerful knight.

Are you saying Porte is doping?

Personally I want to see Wiggins start in Yorkshire, and considering Froome got spat on about 15 times on the way up the Ventoux I know he won't be bothered by my boos, but I'll boo him anyway, whether you like it or not. You need to take your best riders to the Tour, Wiggins is an ex-winner, he has the form, he should be there.

  • What's with you and doping? Heard of fitness tests?

  • He's looking good in the sense that he's loyal. They'll know what he's capable of from training so the fitness aspect is less relevant.

Yeah but does training form always translate into racing form? I'm sure Porte's numbers are spot on, but Wiggins in the more battle-hardened, he looked mighty impressive in the ToC.

I remember Cound tweeting that Froome and Wiggins would never ride together again, didn't they ride Oman or something early season though? I still see no reason to block him riding apart from a personality clash.

What, Teflon Mick? Got mentioned in the reasoned decision as training with Ferrari. Nice guy though.

    Haz some rep

No Jimmy, I am not saying he is doping.
You need to take your best team, not your best riders, to the Tour. It would be silly to deny that Wiggins is emotional, volatile and unpredictable. He's achieved great things and he has had great failures. If having him on the team is a risk then a 'lesser' rider might be of more use. It's just sentiment to say he should be there because he is an ex-winner and cycling is not a sentimental sport.
I can imagine what advice Greg Lemond would give about taking a potential rival with you, however many assurances you have been given.

Form is form. They'll know what he can do, physically and he's been a racer for many years so it's not like he'll suddenly be skittish or something.

Remember how Sky trained before the last few Tours - less racing and more specific training.

  • I remember Cound tweeting that Froome and Wiggins would never ride together again, didn't they ride Oman or something early season though?

No, Wiggins went to the Ruta del Sol.

  • What, Teflon Mick? Got mentioned in the reasoned decision as training with Ferrari. Nice guy though.

No, not that, the fact you went straight to thinking it was about doping rather than the more obvious 'team knowing where he's at performance-wise'.

I was being a little facetious with the doping comment, innocent until proved guilty, but there are lots of whispers around Rogers and of course his departure from Sky coincided with the clean statement they were asked to sign.

And I think he should go on form, he looked mighty impressive on the cobbles, and considering there's a cobbled stage his experience and power might prove important. He is a master TTer, so will be of huge help in the TTT. He is an excellent rouleur and will be a great replacement for Stannard's power on the lower slopes. It's a win-win situation. You're right, cycling isn't a sentimental sport, but it is Froome's sentiment that will be the major reason why he doesn't go IMO.

And OGE will be waiting in the wings to sign him up, and that will be a brilliant move for him, riding with the Yates boys.

And yes LeMond might well be in the Froome camp on that count, but what fun it might be for us to watch if we get something like that again.

  • Whatever happens it's a great way to get a lot of press for the second Aussie team. Go Team Murdoch!

He's that ultra-right wing yanqui billionaire, innee?

I was being facetious, or in other words, a bit of a twat

  • No, Wiggins went to the Ruta del Sol.

So can we get a ruling, have they raced together at all since 2012? I'm sure either this year or last year they raced one of the early season stage races together.

  • He's that ultra-right wing yanqui billionaire, innee?

Pretty sure he has forrun citizenship now but he comes from the land downunder much like that other great man I know..

  • I think his Paris Roubaix ride will have stood him in good stead. Every team with a GC contender will want to keep them safe on the cobbles on stage 5 (?).

Thomas and Wiggins could be pretty crucial to making sure he stays out of trouble.

One of the most ghastly fucks of the post-war era. But then got cuckolded by Tony Blair, so you could actually almost feel sorry for him. Tony Blair ffs. Not even Tony Blair when he was young and less obviously evil.

I don't. I think a journo asked who else is looking good to help him in the tour and he answered.

Yeah but does training form always translate into racing form?

No but testing fitness for a GT domestique is relatively easy and accurate and it doesn't happen in races it happens in a lab at Sky. Froome will know a bit about who's on track with their training for the tour.

  • Quintana looks good in pink.
But if he achieved this despite not feeling 100% (according to himself), does it mean he'll be too knackered to do great things in the TdF?

  • He's not down to ride the Tour this year. Valverde will lead Movistar instead.

  • Spanish team, Spanish rider. What's the bet Quintanaroo moves to another team next year?
