  • No idea - was bought as a built bike and still on original cables. ~6000km on them. Have I just answered my own question...?

Is there a default recommendation for replacement cables?

  • Which distributor does Colnago? Need to source a threadfit 82.5...

  • Is it still Windwave?

  • Nice one, thanks!

  • If the tolerances are tight and you're using a BB with plastic cups you might get away with installing it dry. I use Loctite 609 on my press fit BBs unless they have a thread to hold the two sections together.

  • Not sure if I’m being oblivious or if something is missing from this Colnago Concept bb. Seems to be missing the shell onto which I’d thread a threadfit; the outer diameter for a press fit bb86 is 41mm vs. 46mm on this shell... Any thoughts please?

  • 46mm and no threads sounds like PF30 bottom bracket.

  • I did think of that but the frame’s specs specifically highlight the Threadfit bottom bracket tech on it. Problem is the frame doesn’t have anything other than the bare carbon to thread onto, which would be insane, and additionally it simply wouldn’t fit.

    ^ Annoying website.

  • I can only assume they changed the spec at some point. Unless it's a knock-off...

  • Pretty good one if so. Guess I’ve got a call with Colnago tomorrow. Customer seems on the level but pretty clueless, hope he didn’t drop ££££ on a fake.

  • There definitely are knock-offs out there on Alibaba. And they do appear to have press fit BBs.

  • I’ll have a chat with a friend. He’s had a similar issue with a ‘Colnago’ frame. Turns out it wasn’t legit and the standard were all over the shop. His issue was headset bearings totally out of spec to what Colnago specified.

    What model is it?

  • Concept, supposed to be. The aero one.

  • might be the same one then, came with the aero fork if I remember right, it’s where he hit the snag on the fork not sitting in the frame properly.

    It was a fake.

  • The fakes can usually be told by looking at the dropouts and by missing bits like the metal plate on the ds chain stay

  • Can’t imagine Colnago building anything with PF30. Campagnolo don’t do a 30mm axle crank.

    Probably.

  • Ernesto Colnago was considered a bit of a pariah in the Italian framebuilding world as he allowed one of his sponsored teams to use Shimano back in the early 90s.

  • Hah! Shimano is one thing but Canndondale/SRAM's BB seemed like a stretch to me.

Stranger things have happened I guess.

  • Kids forks unlikely to have any oil in them I’d have thought.

I’ve done oil and seals in marzocchis and foxes and never had any problem finding the amount of oil to put in with a quick google.

What types of forks are they all?

  • Hmmm, I’d have expected a Suntour fork to be elastomer/coil sprung and air damped.

The fact it’s air sprung though means things have moved on a bit so I guess there could be some oil in there.

  • Found a ‘general fork’ manual and a manual for the Auron air fork and and there’s no mention of oil, quickly flicked through a vid of someone taking a coil XCR apart and no oil in it.

  • Yeah, a few online retailers list it as oil damped and a few don't. Have written suntour to ask, not holding my breath but hopefully they'll get back with an answer.

  • There should be some kind of lube in there. Usually a small oil bath in the lowers to keep the seals and uppers slick. It will be fairy heavy oil, 15/20 wt.

Usually there’s a small amount of light oil in the air spring - teaspoon of float fluid is all you need.

Wouldn’t dick with the damper unless it’s shit the bed.
