  • U sure respray bra?!

  • ah, forum doesnt accept all caps. shame

  • Can anyone tell me whether this front mech will work with a chorus 10 speed group?
(the type with silver, five-arm cranks and carbon qs 'micron' ergopower shifters).

    http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Campagnolo-Chorus-front-derailleur-28-6mm-clamp-for-double-chainrings-/00/s/MTIxOVgxNjAw/z/LloAAOxy~ilSOHir/$T2eC16R,!zIFIfDzbVMfBSOHircO1g~~60_12.JPG

  • surely looks like it.. campag left brifters have a lot of clicks for adjustments so i really think youll be fine..

  • Should work, but not nicely .. the later Campy mechs have a rubber insert to reduce the inner cage width - to move the narrower chain.

  • Ah ok, sounds like I should the more recent one. Thanks for info both.

  • My decals arrived today... they're not exactly what I had in mind:

so I think I'll be sending them back.

Mario says he can get Roberts decals as well... anyone know if they'll be any better?
[strike]Or if Roberts still have them?[/strike]

    edit: Roberts don't have them...

  • Roberts endorse the H LLoyd ones, which I suppose those are?

  • Cheers, mine where from World Cycle Decals, btw.

If Mario's look the part then I'll use his: he should be good at putting them on at least.
Hunterlar got his from Argos and Roberts said try Colourtech.
kal_xyo has also suggested Cyclomondo, so there are a few options.

Shame I took the track bike apart too early though!

  • In the meantime, this was the last incarnation of the track bike before it got taken apart.
I think it looks way meaner with the black tyres and a Flite, so I'm now looking for two white-logo Flites.

  • Colourtech were repainting Harry Rowland's Roberts for him when I was in there.

  • Time for an update...
Firstly the parts pile for this is slowly growing:

You will notice that I finally have two doppelganger parts..... the matching headsets are here!
I have also finally located the first white-logo Flite Titanium, so please let me know if you see another for sale anywhere. It's got the Selle Italia logo on the back as a sewn-on plastic button thing. Something tells me it's not going to be easy finding another one exactly the same.

  • Secondly, the plan has now changed a little bit since we last spoke...
Having seen Saarf's excellent Colnago build, I have decided to go for silver Omega V's instead of black. It's a shame to get rid of the pretty black rims, but they'll look shit on the road bike once the braking surfaces start to wear down, so silver it is.

  • Thirdly, the finishing kit plan has changed from cinelli stems and goodness knows what seatpost, to full Nitto. S65 seatposts for both bikes, Pearl stem for the road, alloy Jaguar for the track. probably alloy b123 / b125's for the track bike... and still Deda 215s for the road.
I have never really understood why it is supposed to be 'bad' to put Japanese and Italian parts on the same bike.... Nitto stuff is functional, pretty and available. Instead of scouring the classifieds and ebay for overpriced vintage things, I can now just save up some cash and order it all from hubjub.

  • And lastly (phew), I am thinking of getting some slightly more interesting paint jobs.
Nothing too radical, you understand (I like how Roberts frames are usually very minimal), but maybe red with white forks and rear triangle, in homage to this famous beast:

Or something like this, if I think I can live with such blatant plagiarism:

  • the second one would look great with black forks

  • Looking good Gaz.

  • I have never really understood why it is supposed to be 'bad' to put Japanese and Italian parts on the same bike....

Me neither. Probably the same weird romantic notion which suggests that you should drink French wine with French cuisine, etc. as if there was some intrinsic quality which binds them...

And if you're using the old-school Roberts decals, how about an old-school fade job like he used to do? (CNBA finding a good example so here's a Battaglin instead...)

  • Cheers Phil... not keen on the fades for these... not sure why, tbh.
I think I'm now just going to stick with a one-colour paint job... basically the same as the track bike but with the slightly different decal scheme like I mentioned before.
The parts pile is still growing: I've bought back the Pearl 10 that I sold to PharaohSanders last year, and picked up a spanking S65 from Regal: thanks both.

I also did a mock-up of the road build on the track bike, as cross-posted from CP thread:

  • lush

  • Why thank you sir.
I'm rather pleased with it myself... although it's making me think about black rims again, just when I'd finally made up my mind on silver.

  • First world problems

  • I rarely have any other kind of problem. No one knows about my people's struggle.. etc etc.

    Black rims Gaz. Always black

  • I know! but only until the ano wears off.
then kind of 'smeary sand-papered' looking rims.
Fuck it, silver will look ok. Many fine bicycles have silver rims.

I know all about the struggles, man.
