Or you could do what I've done with the Rourke and just cover the worn in ano surface in mud and grime. Looks well black.

ha ha, i'm sure that looks lovely, dan!
thanks for the link, master... had a quick look but I think they only have the non-titanium version.
If it comes down to it, maybe I'll end up selling the one I have and ordering two from them... But for now the search continues. -

This has titanium -

The one I have so far has white nose logos and 'titanium' written down the side:
Hopefully it isn't some kind of ltd edition, needle-in-the-haystack thing that's going to take forever to find again..
Although I must admit I haven't actually seen another one yet. -

yould be so anal about this matching bikes thing it comes down to the effin logos on the saddle?! or even the material of the rails?!
p.s. i know you were crazy when you even got this idea in your head of the need of respraying the roberts.. but im getting more and more impressed/scared with time..

disclaimer: this was all meant a bit tongue in cheek naturellement

I admire his commitment, I can barely match a finishing kit on one bike, let alone do anything like this

Of course! Matching saddles is entry level stuff.
If I were doing this really properly I would've got both frames custom made with matching details, ostentatiously idiosyncratic paint jobs and groupsets from the correct era that where produced with matching road and track versions: -

keep em black Gaz
I know they'll look good when they're new, but black-that-stays-black means either chinese carbon or Mavic ceramics:
£400 for two pairs.Silver basically means Omega Vs:
£150 for two pairs. That's £250 left over for yachting and cakes!
Cheap carbon clinchers apparently explode on long descents and ceramics are stupidly rare... Omega Vs are even a whopping 8g lighter than the 25mm carbon... just seems better to go with silver and deal with the slight reduction in prettiness. -

How often (if ever) are you going to be descending an Alp? There's no descent in the UK that will explode a carbon wheel from braking alone.
Oh you and your matchy matchy!
I would just ride the road bike brakless - like a real man.

Like, all the time, dude:
well... once.
didn't touch the breaks once on the way back down. obvs -

Trying to get these resprays done before Christmas but still having trouble getting hold of authentic-looking repro decals.
Basically, everyone who stocks / prints reproduction "Roberts" decals has got it wrong: the whole logo should be stretched out another 7cm or so.
Mario, Hlloyd, WCD, colour tech, etc etc all have the wrong version, and literally no-one has the right version.
I've spoken to Argos (who did Hunterlars Roberts respray), and they use a local sign maker in Bristol for all of their resprays, but they won't tell anyone who it is... you just have to get the resprays done with them to get it right.but...
Getting both resprays done at Argos would cost about £340
Getting them done with Mario is about £200.So Argos is £140 more just to get the right decals (to be fair, they'll do a much better respray job as well)
Which makes me think that if Argos use a local sign maker, then there must be someone in London who can copy the logo properly and print it as a bike decal for me.So... who might that be?
-
• #118
I take you've asked Roberts about all this and got a quote from them for a re-spray?
Nice pile by the way.
-
• #119
Yeah, they ran out of the originals years ago... They use colour tech for resprays, who get the shit version from HLloyd.

Why does delivery from the U.S. take so long? It's just an envelope, and Fedex will move it in < 3 days? surely they could send it as a document ...
-
• #121
gaz Yeah, it'd be good to work out who can get the decals right. I can see why you're not into the hlloyd repros, totally. Must be said Argos did a good job for me of copying some decals that no-one had. There are surely people who make decals in this forum ... errrrm
-
• #122
Maybe ask colourtech or Mario to put you in
touch with someone who could make some up?
Then make loads and sell them back to Roberts! -
• #123
I can do an .eps of the logotype for ya no probs if you want to then sort out someone to manufacture the decal
