Just to say a huge thank you to BDW for his time and effort tonight. Very much appreciated.
Looking forward to getting these decals printed asap.
If I sort it by the end of tomorrow, I might even get the paint done before xmas.Whilst I was at BDW's place, I noticed one of these...
similar R to the one on the frames, which I think might be a nice touch for the road bike! -

this is exciting, im waiting with muchly anticipation, go Gaz!

Gaz, any chance you're getting more than one set of those decals printed up? I haven't decided whether I'm going modern typeface or the original Roberts typeface, so wouldn't mind getting my hands on a set of those decals to have spare if they're reasonably cheap.
-
• #133
^ go original typeface, looks loads better I think, Gaz, also good idea if you can get a couple printed up at reasonable cost, I might grab one too just in case I ever repaint my track frame....
-
• #134
I was very much leaning towards modern, but I think because I have the panto on the fork crown and seat stays I would be doing a massive faux-pas to mix and match typefaces...
Anyway, enough of my musings, more of this:
Then make loads and sell them back to Roberts! (and LFGSS)

Absolutely.
I actually got an email from HLloyd this morning saying that they can offer the longer version as well. It's hard to see the detailing from the image they sent over, but having seen the effort that went into BDW's version I'm happier sticking to his.
(It's all about the little dog at the bottom of the R!)I will either ask HLloyd to print from BDW's file, or find an alternative printer and get 10 or so sets printed up to offer to people on here for cheaps. Will update when I've phoned round for quotes.
Either way, you can get all your headtube crests and modern logos from HLloyd. HLloyd are the only company that have proper permission from Roberts to make reproductions, and I don't want to be stepping on anyone's feet...
For the sake of comparisons, here are the options in full:Originals (with World Cycle Decals version):
Big Daddy Wayne's version:
**HLloyd's options: **
American ebay version:

Illustration of 'the little dog at the bottom of the R' is appreciated.
I also think I might copy your bottles idea...

Whilst the thread's back up, I have another issue:
Can I slam the stem?!
The Nitto Pearl seems to have an annoyingly long steerer shaft so, as my frame is quite small, the stem won't go all the way into it before it reaches the butting on the inside of the forks. Is there anything I can do about this? Maybe file the bottom of the bolt so it's a bit slimmer? Or mill the stem shaft.. (but presumably that's butted on the inside and I'll loose all my teeth if I cut it?)
I'd like to lower it about 15mm to get the riding position I'm after:...I reeeeally don't want to have to start rethinking the finishing kit again!

interesting little project that, there's a few anomalies that had been 'corrected' when the font was digitised that needed tweaking back to match the original, little things like the proportions of the top bar of the 'T'.
Now it's been tickled it's as close to the original as you'll get

Yeah, it was fun... I shall never look at typefaces in the same way again!
Still haven't resolved the decal printing yet, but I have just come back from Mario's, so the resprays are GO! I decided to go with with Flam Red in the end... he had some hanging up in the workshop and they look wonderful. I also didn't want to worry about colour matching being spot-on. I might have been fairy tough to please with that!
Mario says they'll be done by Xmas as long as the stickers get sorted.

Oh, and Mario's brother is going to do a braze-on front mech thing for me.
He was actually frame-building for Roberts at the time that mine was made (1990), so there's a good chance it was him who built it in the first place, which is nice : ) -

Decals look sweeeeeeeeeeeet
-
• #146
Yeah, they look the part. Yours are here too, just waiting for the next pay cheque to get some Rouleur bottles and put together a long-distance package to Aus!
You should have it all by the end of Jan.I delivered the decals to Mario yesterday and he said the frames will be ready first thing Saturday morning.
The colour choice may have changed a bit too: I blame Dammit's Serotta...
For the meantime they look like this: -

such progress!

• #148
Nice one on the decals, who did you find to print them in the end?
-
• #149
I know!
Things still to sort out before I can ride them:front mech (now braze-on)
somehow slam the Pearl (scary)
Track cranks (fucking expensive)
Cables, tape, etc. (silver braid? or black)Then, to make them matchy matchy:
Sell the Bianchi and get:
1x s65
1x white logo Flite (I might sell the Ti one and get two from bikecomponents.de)
1x pair of Keo Plus
4x silver omega v rims
wheelbuilding lessons (offers please ; ) -

^^ HLloyd in the end... worked out a bit cheaper as Snicks and I shared the 'set-up' fee.
Thanks again for doing them!
I like the way you think.
That would be amazing! PM'ing now.
