  • lovely looking bike!! been after a decent lo pro for years, this has inspired me to finally look in to getting one!

  • Thanks, like yourself I wanted one for ages and then snapped up a good deal. They're just so eccentric and wacky that you can't really not like them, oh and good luck finding one that fits correctly. Even understanding the sizing was challenging enough for me.

  • Thought it would be a good idea to see how bad the few spots of rust are before getting it blasted. Almost wish I hadn't

I'm thinking of taking this to a local fabricator to see if they can fill the holes, sending it to a frame builder is going to cost loads right? Any advice welcome...

  • gutted

Not as much as sending it to a fabricator unfamiliar with the thin walls and heat sensitive alloys used in bicycles will cost.

  • two chainstays is not the end of the world, get it done proper

  • Do it

I don't know, Argos charge £200 for chain stay replacements.

  • Just get yourself a new frame...

Not quite sure if you're being serious, but was just saying that £200 seems a lot of money when you consider it's twice what I paid for the frame.

  • Thought I'd carry on with the project regardless, looking like I'll get this done properly at Saffron now. Stripped the fork and cleaned up the front wheel removing all the rust. First time I've really dealt with old tubs, and thought petrol would be good at shifting the stubborn glue which it was. Only thing was I tried to syphon petrol from my motorbike tank with a hose and my mouth and felt very woozy, had to sit down for 5 minutes.

  • Daaamn, that looks rather sexy!

  • Thanks, being so wacky and more importantly being the right size, it would seem a shame to scrap it. If anyone has a good condition 24"/600C tub, do page me.

  • Ok so the project is back on track. I sold my car yesterday and have a few spare gn's to get this going. I was considering if there was a more elegant way to re route the rear derailleur cable, under the BB for example, as it's going to a proper frame builder. As I'm looking at the cable guide I notice it says HADEN. Having a brief search online, there isn't too much info. Does anyone know who Haden is/was, I presume this helps build the case of the bike being English?

Seems there are other things with *HADEN *on too after searching:

  • Haden lugs were common among British builders, as an up-sell over bog standard, from at least the late 40s until whenever people started offering Cinelli micro cast as the bling option, probably late 70s or early 80s.

  • Ah great info! Shame Ernie Clements isn't still around to get some more info.

I think that this case is like restoring the batmobile, it's not what it's worth but rather what it is. great project!

You only got the frame that cheap because it needs £200 of repairs

  • Yeah you're probably right.
Ernie Clement's son confirmed today that the bike wasn't one of his farther's, so that's some more avenues closed.
I will be dropping the frame off Friday for repair and paint :)

  • It's a rad frame, it would be a shame to see it rust away. Glad you are restoring it and giving it a second chance.

  • Thanks, I'm sure all the effort will be worth it when it's built up.

I'm starting to think about the gearing. I'd like to run a 10 speed (Sram) cassette on the rear to match the rival parts which I will fit in time, this will be operated from a TT thumb shifter on the right tri bar. Is there anyway I could get a 10 speed sram/shimano cassette onto a Campagnolo Shamal hub?
