  • This is not just another yellow bike. It looks amazing. Spot on for the Hard Anodized H+Son. Bought the same hubs for the bike I'm building right now. Any considerations?

Ever thought of going for the black groupset instead?

    Congrats.

  • I'd have gone with a black groupset if I hadn't already had the alloy Athena groupset waiting for a frame as discussed on the last page. Having said that, I'm really happy with the way it's turned out so no real regrets there at all.

As for hubs, absolutely no complaints so far but they've only really been round the block so far, so there shouldn't be any yet anyway. Was very close to going with record hubs but the lack of choice for spoke count and the fact that they only come in black were the deciding factor. Also considered the novatec super lights but the wheelbuilder suggested they were virtually dry weather only in his experience

  • Switch out the pads for swisstop greens to prolong rthe life of the anodising.

    Looks so good!

    Congratulations.

  • looks great Luke, another campag equipped bike, yay!

  • I'd be interested to know how many miles the anodising lasts as I'm thinking of building similar wheels for myself.
How long did yours last JB?

  • Very nice! I've only done a few hundred miles on the Novatec hubs myself, but very pleased with them.

I got my Archetypes second hand, from amey, and he said he'd done 500 dry miles on them with swisstop greens. The black was only just starting to wear away, very slightly, on the rear wheel. You must bear in mind that these were the black, non anodised, archetypes though.

I used standard brake pads on them as soon as I got the wheels from Amey and the braking surface wore down on a 30 mile round trip! Hope that helps. So swisstop greens definitely prolong life. I now have greens and the braking performance is vastly improved and also silent.

  • Cheers JB, so there are anodised archetypes and painted ones... and the ano ones last longer?

...anyone have experience wearing out black omega v's, btw?

  • 77 dry miles so far and there's a slight discolouration in a circle all the way around the NDS of the front rim. Probably best that i either get swisstop greens pretty quick or forget about being precious about the anodising

  • I'd advise doing both.

  • Cheers JB, so there are anodised archetypes and painted ones... and the ano ones last longer?

Correct. Black are painted surfaces. Silver are silver throughout and then we have the grey anodised, rather than painting. H pluses taken on CD of Open Pro CD I believe.

  • This didn't get the recognition it deserved. Hence I am bumping this thread and reposting the money shot.

You should take more pictures Luke :-D

  • So good. I'm glad someone bought it and built it up well.

  • This is excellent and now serotta is sadly closing down it will have even more specialness

  • Thanks all. Will take some more photo's when the sun come back out.

Have done a few miles on it now so i can confirm it rides like a dream, the wider rim and veloflex master combo in particular is great. The white mark on the front rim seemed to be caused by something in the stock brake pad, have switched them to swissstop greens, the mark has gone and theres no visible wear to the anodising (as you'd expect after a few hundred miles)

I'd thought about switching the cranks out for 53/39 as the groupset id bought came with compacts but i've found myself using the 34 tooth ring a fair bit (11-25 on the rear)

Hadn't heard Serotta were closing down, sad news

  • Very sad :( They were just starting to look interesting again. Even fair prices on their pronto (ti race bike).

Wouldent be suprised if they were ressurected in a lesser scale tho, hopefully!
Either way atleast you got a gem !

  • tried to get a couple of snaps this evening but the light wasn't great. did manage to find a wall in suffolk pink though

  • That's fucking rad. Chapeau.

  • Seriously fucking nice.

  • I am so in love. Favourite forum bike in such a long time.

  • Yep, it's a cracker.

  • think I had a glimpse of this yesterday somewhere, Kings X?

  • Quite possibly, have been based in London for the last week and cycling to Brighton/Bury st Edmunds etc. Had to walk it from the train at Kings X to cycle surgery with a flat on Wednesday. Just getting my excuses in for walking it on the path fully lycra'd.

  • Any suggestions for a gumwall tyre that rides well, doesnt weigh a ton and doesnt puncture constantly on dry, debris-free, summer roads? The Masters ride really nicely but have punctured 5 or 6 times in the 850ish miles i've done so far.

  • I think the standard answer is Panaracer Paselas, or Vittoria Open Corsa SC.
