  • Mainly because it is going to be really annoying if the stem is bent.

  • I definitely don’t remember the bars being tilted in it’s previous incarnation and I did a few miles on it. Think it would have to be the stem, which is a massive PITA with rewrapping etc

  • It's also that the stem is aluminium which doesn't, in my limited experience, enjoy being bent.

You don't notice it when riding the bike but I'm keen for the stem not to snap when I'm riding the bike because I decided to ignore a slightly wonky handlebar...

  • Maybe the stem is straight, and everything else is wonky.....

  • I also had this once and it turned out the headtube was out of alignment. Hopefully this isn't the case with your build.

  • Mind if I give you a shout on your experience with frame repair @Dammit?

Trying to work out if anyone will be able to repair this Max frame and whether it’d be a better idea just to start again

  • Sure, fire away- do you have my number?

  • that looks totally awesome dude.

and I hope the stem isn't bent as for what it is worth I think it looks perfect on this. just give a nice bit of weightiness to the front end.

great build. not that I would expect anything less.

  • ouch poor rock lobster, rider okay?

  • Yeah I’m ok thanks, a bit sore today but nothing that won’t sort itself out

  • Ouch @lukeg - glad to hear you're okay. Not a terrible time to get into Paul's queue based on today's not too shabby GBP > USD. If you decide a new frame is the way, that is.

  • Thanks @JB, have just sent him an email to see if the damage can be repaired and will work out which way to go from there

  • I think someone said his wait is about ~8 months at the mo, so you may not want to wait that long.

Oh and I'm sure you won't, but if you need any help with shipping etc, holla at me.

  • Appreciated

This thread probably has the right audience to ask that if anyone happens to spot anything suitable as a replacement, steel & around 57cm square to shoot me a PM. I’ll stop hijacking your thread now Neil

  • Ouch glad you’re ok... is that my old RL?

  • Sorry guys, I treated it very well up until yesterday

  • Of course.

  • Taking the opportunity to fit some Teflon liner to the anti-diluvian cable guides whilst in changing the cable tensioners.

  • That definitely looks better than the cables just slowly sawing through the BB.

Probably just the photo but is the tyre not quite centred? I found that the rear QR needed to be REALLY tight to stop the wheel moving towards one of the chain stays

And of course the original barrel adjusters turned up one week after the build

  • The rear wheel was on the wonk, I find that I need to take the bike out of the workstand, wobble the wheel with the QR undone to centre it, then do the QR up in order to re-centre. Trying to centre the wheel whilst the bike is hanging in the air (for me, anyway) never really works).

It's now straight in the frame so I can get the cable tension for the rear mech correct.

  • The third piece of the puzzle is lurking out there...
