  • have sent them an email, just means it'll be a few more weeks until i get to ride it. Makes the wheel situation a little less urgent i guess

  • good lad, like you say, gives you time to source a wheelset that both performs well and looks cracking!

  • Is the hole big enough for a threaded one to sit in or to grip an end cap? Just bung it in and sort it when you get something appropriate - it's not like you actually need the barrel adjuster to set it up anyway.

  • A threaded one will fit, but won't grip the sides. It might stay in place under tension but the one that I have isn't particularly long and I'd be wary of it kinking.

  • Just heard back from serotta, $25 plus postage, hopefully they get over here quickly. Parts are beginning to turn up now.

  • As for the rear merch you don't need an adjuster as there is one on the merch itself. For the front merch you could use one of those small barrels which fit in between the cables if you know what I mean haha.

  • TB14s are for people who want the look of Ambrosio Nemesis without the hassle of tubs.

  • Right, right.

Go on Luke, live a little:

  • It pains me to say it, since I haz some for sellz, but CX18s are the wrong rim for this bike. Mavic SSC would be right.

  • Yes, I definitely want the ease of clinchers. Erring towards TB14's but haven't ruled out archetypes completely. Still haven't decided on hubs, zenith appeal on price, record would fit with the rest of the campagnolo and Royce just look great. Any reason not
To go for Royce if I can find them for the right price?

  • if you're after a custom build with royce, i cannot recommend wheelsmith enough. Have a chat with them, even if you don't buy they'll give you some other options and tips.

  • The wider the better, to an extent. TB14s all the way.

  • The only royce hub i have seen live was fairly heavy and v expensive. Id go with some old stock centaur / daytona or chorus in silver, record even if its in your budget.

  • An update:
It took them a month to put them in the post, but i have now received the head tube cable adjusters. Was invoiced by Serotta after they were sent and was surprised to find that i'd been charged $45 to ship an envelope with a part that weighed less than 10 grams in. My delight doubled when i also had to pay a customs charge of £21.51 (more than the value of the part). At todays exchange rate, that puts the cost of the headtube adjusters at £66.91.

Despite having a whole month to reflect, I still haven't decided on wheels.

  • have you seen the deal on planet x carbon clinchers? 550 for a 22mm wide rim and shallow crabon profile. if i had any money to burn..

  • shimano fit unfortunately though. Theres some campagnolo fit 50mm in classifieds at the moment but theyre tubs and its far easier to take an inner and repair kit with me than a tub or a can of pitstop

  • its taken a while, but first time out on it today

55 miles of suffolk lanes and it rides amazingly

  • Looks great, very envious.

    What's the final component list?

  • ^ this

    and yes it looks great!

  • You nailed it! Now i wish i bought that!

Congrats on a great looking bike. So how does it ride?

  • Was with a non-cycling friend for the first 37 miles so didnt really push it today, the ride was really smooth though, the loudest noise when the wind was behind me was the tyres on the road.

    Spec list;
    Serotta CSI '96
    Full campagnolo Athena 11s groupset
Nitto s65 seatpost & San Marco Ti Regal saddle
Soma highway one bars taped with fizik superlight tape & 3t pro-chrome 100mm stem
Hard ano H+ Son archetypes laced to the novatec hubs that are identical to ambrosio zenith with Sapim laser spokes. Veloflex Master 25c tyres
    Stainless steel king cages

  • What brake pads are you using?

  • The standard ones that came with the Athena brake set. Seemed fine today, stopped far better than the Daytona brakes I was using before, any reason I should be switching them out?

  • Just thinking with the ano surface of the rims, there might be better pads, to help with longevity.
