Last few bits are here, now just wait impatiently for frame...
There's only one saddle I could possibly use, a Turbo (in Nubuck leather, of course). Cheap Campag cartridge 115mm BB, if this fits and keeps the inner ring clear of the chainstay something better may be added later. The shoes are original and surprisingly weigh less than modern ones, thus proving that an ability to tie your own shoelaces saves the weight of all those buckles/straps/wire systems/dials etc.
By the way, anyone looking for gum hoods to fit old Modolo (I think Campag are identical), Dia Compe from SJS Cycles fit perfectly for less than a tenner posted. Cane Creek are claimed to fit but don't!
Colin, may i be as presumptious as to suggest a Record cup and cone job for the BB?
by the way i saw a lovely pair of nos Gios shoes on the Bay recently alas not my size.

Colin where did you get those shoes? Am keeping a vague eye out for something similar.

^^^Rive, I know, I know, hoping for news tomorrow.
^^Monsieur Fignon, you may be presumptuous, exactly the BB I want, just making sure axle length is correct. Besides, 'lightly used' on internet ads appears to mean 'fucked', and 'NOS' means 'sell a small child'. The shoes don't fit me either....
^NCJ, simples, I just waited for my Dad to die last year, please don't feel bad about this, he was 81 and rode until nearly the end.

.. now to think of it, i did read of a mysterious incident regarding a forcibly de-shoed octagenarian cyclist in the swaffham herald last year.. o_O

Ah, the great metropolis of Swaffham, it was the far turn of one of my rides when I was at school in scenic Norfolk. Is it still closed?
Dad went to the oven in full Dartford Wheelers team kit and his second best shoes. I scattered his ashes on our favourite climb, from a bike, in a skinsuit. He would have been most disappointed that I didn't fall off.

My estimate of a month for the Gios to get a thorough Goffing was spot on.
Was it worth waiting for?
You judge (yes, it is the same frame)!

That's lovely.

This looks amazing.
Particularly impressed by the seamless new rear mech hanger.
Hopefully this will spur on Jingle Jangle to finish his off. -

Thanks for the comments folks, I must admit to being quite a lot pleased and considerably poorer.
Did the bottom bracket fit, did it fuck!
So, buy another bracket, hope the chromed bits turn up this week and finally build it up.....
I have three builds to complete this week and every one is blocked by unforseen missing parts, frustration levels going through the roof. Ah well, at least I've got some miles in on the carbon FredSled.

Do yourself a favour - get a Royce Bottom Bracket - expensive, but worth it.

^I know, I know, I have them in two of my other bikes. Just have to make sure of spindle length first! Next stop 118mm cheapie....

Nice Frame!

Nothing ever goes smoothly, the unique centre-mounted gear lever bosses disintegrated at the chromer.......
Luckily, the genius and mega-mechanic that is Max Norrell of Enigma Frames is making me a new one from solid stainless steel which, of course, can never rust. Less fortunately, the snivelling bastard is sunning his loathsome body in Spain, so there's a two week wait.
By that time I should have a BB that fits and the paint will be REALLY hard, everything happens for a reason!

looking very nice ... i have just picked up a similar frame ,flat back stays same cable guides on the top tube , but the forks have the gold coins in & the shifter mounts are in the standard position ... quite hard to date these frames
i see you had yours from new ! fantastic renovation -

^Looking forward to seeing this, start a thread please!
Finally, finally, the genius that is Max has come up with the stainless steel lever mount. Forget 'good as new', it is considerably better!
Build now 70% complete, first ride and photos on Tuesday if the promised storms don't happen - I have other bikes to ride in the wet....

Is that mount a stock part, or has it been custom made?
-
• #71
^Very much custom Jingle, tooled out of solid stainless with a recess to fit the fixing stud on the frame and radiused out to fit the frame tube. All this without the original which dissolved at the chromer.
This is why I refer to Max as a genius, not an ugly little git!

Ok, finally this is it, back to nearly exactly how I raced it in the early 80s, with almost all the original parts. Like me, the parts are slightly battered but polish up reasonably well.
This is not a wall-hanger, it will be ridden, just not in the wet!
