Somebody been to Brick Kiln Lane recently?
Hello chaps. I'm not sure if you are planning to do Roydon again next time but I'm afraid I shamelessly pilfered the route and rode out to do it this afternoon (after hoping to be a late entry last Tuesday).
Anyway, I'm not sure if this is normal or not but, around the halfway point there were Road Closed signs and a fence blocking my path. Needless to say, I assumed it would just be some minor road resurfacing I could negotiate so, after a quick bit of Cyclocross action, I carried on. 250 yards later a truck blocked my path and the driver said the area was now in the hands of a private company(?!), he was calling security and I would be fined £2K for trespassing. Fortunately he cheered up after a bit of a chat - and realised it was easier to let me go the shorter distance to the end of the closed area than send me back where I come from - and I was on my way again. It might be a bit trickier on a weekday though it there are workers around (there was a lot of equipment at the roadside)?
Other than that it was a lovely route, I recognised a lot of it from other rides but had never done that particular loop before, so... thanks!*
*Wind was a bitch though...
I thought the whole route was public roads. Never mind, we will probably do it later in the summer when the evenings are longer.
I hope that wasn't the Brick Kiln Lane section, or whatever it's called. Best bit of the route.
At the time I figured it would be easy to tell where it was from my GPS but unfortunately it's isn't terribly obvious (however it could be Brixton Lane based on a couple of suspicious speed drops). Sadly if I had to take a punt on it I would say it was Brick Kiln Lane - certainly it was a few minutes after I started getting slapped in the face by the Southerly wind.
Incidentally, at the start of the loop bit, I went left, clockwise - is that the correct way round (the Gramin said both directions were off course(!) but corrected itself quickest going that way)?

Poor ben. Is he destined to bedwet every tnrc by default?
-
• #390
If he can give us a reasonable excuse then we will take him off the bedwetters list. So far all we get us some lame out of the country/not living in London anymore rubbish.
