  • nice ride chaps, cheers for waiting at the turns!

And apologies again for coming on a night ride with an underpowered front light and defective rear... Both will be remedied for the next one!

    What great weather that was!

I'll be bringing a lid with light mounted to it next time :)

  • Chaps, in case you have not seen the update in the Dunwich Dynamo 2012 thread. Lazy buggers* who are too idle to ride both ways on the dunrun can buy coach tickets now. It's riding, at night, with beer stops and a swim at the end, what's not to like.

    £20 before end May
    £30 from 01 June
    £35 on the day

*or those who know in advance that they will be too pissed to ride.

Good shout Chris, Foolish chancers again?

  • Also: having seen the way in which some of those bikes were loaded (and having done my best to ensure they were unloaded carefully) I'm definitely riding back, or to Ipswich.

Simples. Just do what Matt does. Ride a shit bike.

Trace from Tuesday. Given the terrain, I'm pretty happy with that average on 70 GI.

Weather was just amazing - cool, slightly misty and completely still. Really glad I came along - great to get that I've done something slightly out of the ordinary feeling. Cheers :)

  • Lovely ride, gents. Pace was good, weather great. Really eerie and silent when we paused back at Ranmore.

Hills in the dark are fun as you can't see the end and just have to go for it rather than see it pitch up ahead and bail!

So you're hoping to make it past Moreton this year? Bit optimistic.

There's a Matt with a shit bike? Why have I never met him?

  • Good point, I take back my shit bike comment on the basis that yours got you to the beach.

I'm glad the average was that high! That felt fast for me, but good riding for those lanes.

And I love that temperature spike on the garmin readout that corresponds to the pub stop!

  • I'm gearing up for the next one of these after being send to this thread by zanda in the audax thread.

I've been worrying about my pace but to be honest looking at that speed I should just be OK. Just...I'm fit, just not fast.

  • Hi by the way :)

  • Hi, that pace will increase on a flatter ride but don't worry, no one gets left behind. If you really are worried, check the route database and try out one of the rides in daylight.

I can readily confirm that at every major turn I rolled up to a patiently waiting group had collected in the dark.

I think, if there and back-ing I might take some crabon, as opposed to 30 y/o steel :P

  • Thanks. My girlfriend (who is The Keeper of the Garmin) confirms that that speed shouldn't be a problem for me so I'm now not really worried.

I just don't log any cycling I do so I find it hard to judge speeds, is all.

    Looking forward to joining you.

  • ^See you next ride!

  • Oh yeah! Was it just me that saw the toads? or the lone deer??

There was a road sign saying "TOADS" and when I slowed down you could see loads of them on the ground!

I have a secret love for the little guys

  • Saw four deer on Ranmore Common but missed the toads!

I saw the sign and after a bit I thought, yeah, probably don't want to slide over a toad...

  • I thought it was just someone having a laugh with the sign! Similarly, there was a sign outside someone's house near me that had "free hardcore" after they had done some garden work. I cycled past it the morning it went up wondering how long it would take for the inevitable...........and 3 hours later, riding back, it was there: "free hardcore porn". Love it when you can rely on others! The next day the sign was still there but "porn" had been smudged in an effort to remove it :(
