I am most excited about riding through a car free Blackwall Tunnel and riding over the Glamoursmith Flyover.
On this...

But you can understand that if someone seriously injured or worse was killed because they lost control in wet conditions that would be really tragic, and just not good for the Ride 100.
That would be monumentally shit.
But agree without the hills it will be a rather boring ride in the rain!

Of course. But I suspect that someone will lose control in the wet conditions, and I don't think it will be on the hills, or rather, I don't think they make it significantly more dangerous.

Just had an email from the organisers saying they may remove Leith and Box hill from the route if the weather is really bad.
Presumably for the downhills rather than the uphills, otherwise this make very little sense.

I think if it's wet I'll be taking it easy everywhere!
Will be riding the Colnago Dream and a wearing a London Wildlife Trust jersey, look out for a say hello!
Was hoping to get near to 5.30hrs riding time, but think the weather has destroyed that!

I've just rebuilt the Time Machine.
Commence vacillating: NOW

I'll be on this. In a white FHHV jersey and forum cap under helmet.
Sorry folks but I don't think there'll be any good times posted in this wind! I'm actually worried this is going to turn into a sodding hard ride.

why is everyone going to the Freecycle cycling on the pavement?
-
• #1061
Because London's roads are only safe to ride on when they're closed off to other traffic, surely you knew that? That's why drivers are always so keen for us not to be on then roads the rest of the time - they're concerned for our safety. Of course, we'd have more of a leg to stand on if we paid road tax....
More seriously - I'm trying to decide whether I'm nervous about the weather or not. Part of me thinks that the sun breaking through the clouds and the rain fading out just as we ride back back into central London would be really rather cathartic.

Saw a whole family walking bikes down Gower St on the pavement this morning in the direction of the mandated cycling safety zone. And loads and loads of cars driving into town with bikes on the roof. Cycling legacy?

My tongue in cheek comment was meant to satirise something I do think exists - which is the idea that cycling is something you do 'elsewhere', away from city centre motor traffic, which I think is quite a prevalent belief out in the Home Counties.

Many people riding the free cycle in town. Lots of kids with training wheels. families going home on the pavement . Is this going to make them want to ride bicycles?

Option 1) Jersey with shit rain jacket, then take off jacket once warmed up and just get wet. Or Option 2) Gabba from the start?

my friend has a bit of a problem he was late to the registration at excel and wasn't able to collect any of the entry pack ... numbers etc
if anyone does pull out and has an entry pack going spare or you are not able to make it he would be very happy to take it off your hands -
• #1067
has he tried calling them? seems a bit crappy if he can't do it for being half an hour late...
-
• #1068
Any update from Boris... has he closed off the fun of the hills?
Might just stay indoors on a turbo instead. -
• #1069
Ok, who has access to the most in depth, super-computer derived weather forecast?
-
• #1070
Workmate lives on the route near Putney bridge. Said they've retarmacced it especially for Sunday and that it will be dug up again on Monday.

Me.
It will rain.
End of -
• #1072
Yeah, looks like it will rain, but only a little, on and off over the day (12mm). And probably 20 degrees, hot rain :-)

Double layer jersey or Jersey and baselayer?
I'm riding over in a waterproof, ditching it in the kit bag, swapping to bin bag for waiting and getting wet. -
• #1074
Drat, was determined not to forget to pack a base layer then did just that. Am now other side of town without. Hope they have some covered spots for the 30-60 mins standing around at the start.

Hoping Hurricane Bertha will go to France! The crowds for the Women's Grand prix were up by at least 500 per cent tonight. Its all getting very popular
pretty pretty biek!
I am probably going to go on the blue gazelle and not the pretty pink flanders. also may ditch the forum ladies jersey in favour of long sleeves. so for ease of identification, I will be the one struggling SS up everything that might call itself a hill, wearing lumo green helmet.
