I am totes available for cat-sitting duties in North London over Christmas FYI. I'm not going all the way to TW's place though, he lives out in the arse-end of nowhere. My services extend to locations within civilisation only.

I'm not great at taking photos, but I enjoyed my cat stealing a drink from the cat mug:

Whilst it's a great photo... are you sure that's not a rabbit mug?

Thanks for all the info. We'll ask around for local friends and see if any are going to be here, but nice to know there's a fallback from forumengers if all else fails.
You may have to put up with the occasional invasion of personal space once he gets to know you.

If you get really desperate, something like this might help, not cheap though, and they probably get booked up fairly quickly over xmas.

is there a human sized version of that?

This is an absolutely fantastic idea and invaluable if you are going away overnight or for a short break. However, cat mate say this is tamper proof in all of their advertising/literature. Unfortunately this is not the case; or at least not in the case of my rather greedy and curious cat!! She has discovered that if she pushes the feeder disk in a backwards direction with her paw, she can then access food! Sometimes the feeder clicks into place when she does this, allowing her later access to even more food when she pushes the disk backwards again!
lmao

My cats are driving me insane.
This morning they came scratching at the bedroom door at 5am, then proceeded to sit at the top of the stairs and wail until I got up. I shut them in the front room so they wouldn’t wake my girlfriend up, but then Opie spent the next 15 minutes throwing himself at the door handle in an attempt to open it. When I was finally dressed and ready to deal with them I went back downstairs, found a big pile of cat vomit on the carpet, an empty packet of Dreamies. The cupboard they were stashed in had the contents strewn all over the kitchen.
Whilst I was tidying this up Gomez did a massive shit on the floor right in front of me. He refused to use the litter tray if Opie has been in it first, so as he had been in the night and I was too busy cleaning up vomit to empty it right away, he just did a protest poo right next to the litter tray. Fuck my life.

Try a second tray - helped ours not get confused about which corner was ok!
-
• #3291
We have a second tray.
the problem is opie likes to use all the trays, and Gomez is too much of a diva to go in there if Opie has been in first. He's usually pretty good at holding it in until I clean the tray out for him, but not today, probably because he was full of stolen cat treats.

Oh dear!

....and Opie is the spawn of Satan. I've never heard a cat that makes as much noise as him. 5am every fucking day he sits outside the bedroom door and wails and wails until you get up and feed him.
-
• #3294
You need to resist- he has worked out that if he wails, you get up. Don't get up= no point wailing.

Tin foil on the floor and up the side of the wall / door.
Cats fucking hate tin foil.
Cover a flattened out cereal box and make barriers that you can move.
If that don't learn 'em, attach it to the mains.

tried that, he wailed for an hour and a half straight once and almost lost his voice. He's persistant and loud. I'll make a video for you all tomorrow.
I think I'm gonna try and change their feeding schedule so he's not expecting food first thing in the morning.
EDIT: here you go. An old video from when he was smaller, and not quite as loud.

Cats fucking hate tin foil
where did you hear this? I give mine a screwed up ball of tin foil all the time and they play with it, and inevitably shred it to pieces.
-
• #3298
Utter bollocks to the tin foil. But the making a tape circle works.....
-
• #3299
Your cats are wrong'uns then.
Find something that they don't like, and make a barrier with it.

Fire!
That's the fella.
