My cat is beyond scared of tin foil!

In my experience there are two things cats don't like - the rustle of plastic bags and hoovers.
-
• #3306
I imagine a barricade composed of the rustle of plastic bags and an operational hoover to be quite annoying... perhaps even more so than the cat.
-
• #3307
Hah mine love plastic bags and the Hoover!
-
• #3308
Rowley loves and hates plastic bags in equal measure, it's quite amusing to watch.
-
• #3309
Mine like plastic bags, not fans of the vacuum cleaner but not so much afraid of it, just very wary.
Opie isnt scared of water either which adds another level of difficulty, Gomez runs as soon as you pick up the spray bottle so he's easy to discipline.

I found an old bike hooter keeps them off the table quite effectively.

I looked into that a few years ago. Essentially it is stupid because it stores all the bad smells in its base and you need to wear a biohazard suit to clean it. Instead I bought a CatGenie because it is automated and plumbed in so it NEVER smells! I thoroughly recommend it to anyone with a cat. http://www.catgenie.co.uk/

This is Clive at about 70% volume and what he does any time anyone goes near either his bowl or where the food is kept!
I also need to clean their tray thing :/
-
• #3313
haha thats it!
thats the noise I hear at 5am every day. The little jerk.
-

CatGenie looks phenomenal. Our house smells really bad as the cat refuses to go outside for any reason whatsoever and has simultaneously developed the stinkiest poos ever.

all cats should be called 'clive'. for it is the greatest of names.

• #3316
He's not trying hard enough.
When it sounds like a child crying that gets annoying.

Who needs an alarm clock?

It is tough but you have to persevere. I suggest that you
(A) ensure that you put way too much food down before you go to bed, so you know the cries are for attention and not because of an empty bowl
(B) get a water spray bottle so every time the cat sits there meewing at an ungodly hour, he gets sprayed with water. He will soon learn what is acceptable behaviour. When I had Sammy v7, he owned me, and the vet told me I had to treat a cat like a recalcitrant child, and not let them get away with unacceptable behaviour. It might take a week or so, but the cat will quickly learn. These days with Sam v8 I just have to pick up the water spray bottle and the cat runs out of the room.

I just ignore mine, no matter how hard she tries - liciking my face, repeatedly tapping my arms, put on the cutest face ever etc, I dont move... it took a while and she still tries now and then, but now she mostly sits quietly next to me until I wake up when I want to. Althought to be fair, Patch us a very quiet cat...

They usually hate lemon/orange/lime etc. peels.

Yeah water bottle trick works on one cat but not the other, we trained our ginger tabby like that but the bengal isn't bothered by water and just stares you down while you spray him. He's a nightmare.
