  • I am thinking maybe I should forget about having a 2nd cat, Patch is sooooo unfriendly to other cats who come into her (my) garden... Today she saw 1 that merely crossed the line, she shot through the flap, and chased that poor thing all the way round the garden.... and her tail was like 3 times larger than normal... maybe Patch is a fucking bitch...

That is such a good thing though. My cat is way too friendly with two other cats and regularly invites them in for a luxury dinner of expensive vet cat food. It started with just the one, then he got a 'brother' who also learnt how to force his way through a magnetic cat flap. They also take it in turns to look out the front window and guard their territory.

It is quite funny though when the cat they can't stand comes stalking by... three cats, huddled inside the front door, yowling at the stranger.

I do think that if you got a kitten and introduced it slowly, (cover it with Patch's favourite blanket etc, so it got her scent), it might integrate better than an adult cat.

  • 'Flat Cat' visited us again last night. It got some roast turkey and a pat. #csb

  • I guess it'd be easy to make the 2nd cat to accept Patch, particularly if it's a young kitten etc, but what about Patch? What if Patch just don't get on with it? Some say cats eventually learn to put up with each other, but I think it's worse to have to live with someone you don't like than living alone and feeling bored now and then... If any cat dares to force their way into my flat and steal Patch's dinner, I think they would end up being her dinner...

  • Romance on Green Lanes this morning.

  • Are the nearest two time travellers who have gone back to re-live the heady days of their fledgling romance?

  • ^ ah ha ha, brilliant comment to that photo!

  • I thought all gingers were toms ?

EDIT: Interwebz tells me different, there are female gingers - but they are unusual.

  • I thought all gingers were toms?
Ginger toms are more prevalent, but you can have ginger females too - the ginger gene is in the X chromosome. A male only needs one ginger X chromosome to be a ginge, a female needs two.

  • RIP Conker, had to make the tough decision to put him down on the weekend. He was struggling too much. The other cat doesn't know what to do with herself.

  • goonz mate, sorry to hear that.

  • so this is how Patch decides when to have her breakfest... not what time of day it is, not when the sun start to come out, it's rouhgly about 3 hours after I have been to bed... I don't usually go to bed till 2 or 3am, so breakfest about 5-6pm is not a problem. However, I have been going to bed at mid night due to having a cold, and oh my dear god, she demands her breakfest at 3:15am... and loads of petting... and tickling... all in the middle of the fucking night!!!

  • Cats are evil ........

  • Romance on Green Lanes this morning.

Are the other two waiting in line? Or is this some sordid cat peep show? #catting

  • I have to say the tabby / ginger one doesn't seem to be enjoying it...

  • I have to say the tabby / ginger one doesn't seem to be enjoying it...

Seems to be asking the age old question 'Is it in yet?'

So sorry for your loss :( Never an easy decision to make. How old is the other cat?

Or those passion-killer words "Just hurry up and get it over with."

  • I have to say the tabby / ginger one doesn't seem to be enjoying it...

Not surprising given that male cats have these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penile_spines

  • Ha. I thought penile spines were supposed to contribute to sexual pleasure and ovulation?

Though how scientists worked that out I do not wish to know.

  • Ovulation, yes. Dunno about pleasure. That seems so much less likely.

  • So sorry for your loss :( Never an easy decision to make. How old is the other cat?

She is probably between 2.5-3 years now...
