  • Tonight we're going to spend some time posting Ripley through the cat flap so she gets the idea and then leave her to her own devices. Newt will probably require some more supervision as we've realised it would be easy for her to get into a place she can't get back from.

Be careful posting them thought the flap. I know some folks here suggested this but it resulted in negative reaction with mine. She ended up being scared of the flap for a while. I tried using treats on the other end to tempt her to go through. I also had to tape the actual flap up so she could get used to going through a tiny hole. Then once she got used to the hole, I shut the flap down without the microchip option, then a few weeks later, I turned the microchip option back on and now she loves shooting though the flap for no reason sometimes...

  • ^^ yep, holding the flap open and having treats on each side helped the wolf get used to his catflap in no time at all

Also needs an English orthography lesson. Those upper case letters are freaking me out.

  • When I was just about to leave for work this morning, her highness jumped into the litter tray, had a dig around and decided to have her wee right outside the tray and the trail was all the way to the living room. No, the little tray isn't dirty, it can't be cleaner. Yes, she knows how to use the litter tray. Yes, she was angry with me coz I unlocked her flap at 8am not 5:30am. And yes, she is the biggest pain at the backside. Cats!!! Who wants them anyway????!!!!??!!!!!

  • I hope you dont have carpet!

  • yes I do. Althought I think she still has a wee (no punt intended) bit of respect for me that she only did it on the floor board bit of the flat... I don't know, I was rushing out the door for works so only clean it briefly with some baby wipes. Will see what the damage actaully is when I get home.

Any tips on getting rid of the smell?

  • This stuff. Buy lots.

Simple Solution Stain and Odour Remover for Cats, 1000 ml: Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

Cats go back to where they have peed before, and will follow their noses.

  • I use that rug doctor stain remover stuff and vinegar.

Thankfully never had the cats pee anywhere else, pretty strict with the litter tray area and wiping them down.

  • I really wish my cat would leave my water alone. If I take a glass of water to bed to drink in the middle of the night, she waits till I'm asleep and either wakes us up by the tingtingtinging of the collar against the glass or I'm blissfully unaware and drink cat water in the morning before Mrs Pun tells me the cat's been at at...

I feel your pain. Happens daily at dinner, so we set a human cup for her at the table, does she use that? Of course not...she waits till one of use goes to get something from the kitchen then violates their drink.

Spare cupboards? Lay down lino floor, insert litter tray/s, cut hole in door, install cat flap, hey presto, no smell ever! Works a charm here. Post dinner traffic is hilarious though.

  • Thing is, I don't think she wee on the floor on purpose, it was like "oh shit, I can't hold any longer so I am going to wet myself. Althought I didn't see what happened exactly, but I think it was coming out as she made her way to the catflap... but why the digging in the litter tray?

In the absence of all the above mentioned cleaning agents tonight. I am just going to use the good old fashion dettol wipes for now. or is it a bad idea? Will stock up some proper stuff.

Chak, her litter tray has a hood, so smell isn't an isue if she does her business inside the tray, the issue is when she does it anywhere else...

    Why not cover it up?

    WELL......FUCK!

  • is it good or bad?

  • is it good or bad?

I took a saw to half the available cupboard doors.......I thought I was being clever....

  • Why not cover it up?

this was occurring to me as I wrote my whine...

it'll either work or there will be water everywhere and a cat going batshit at 3 in the morning.. only one way to find out

Oh I see. Well, but at least your litter tray is hidden inside a cupboard. Mine is still a box out in the open...

  • Mabel, complete with slightly gammy eye:

  • Also, the hooded litter trays are good. Despite all the scuffling around when in use...

  • It's cat custody week again for me. No door scratching yet. I'm taking this as a Good Sign. I took him away while Kirsty was at work so was worried he'd think he was being catnapped. Doesn't seem to care though. Boys night in tonight so I'll get off work on time and head straight back for a good ear-scratching session.

I leave a bowl of water in most rooms, that way they are never too far from their own.

Theres usually a saucepan in the kitchen left overnight with water in it and they usually drink from that. Most likely enjoying the cooked taste.
