• £930 for the P2M here which seems like a good price to me, including the cranks as it does.

That site has cheaper options also- the reason I like the Rotor 3D+ is because you can use them on almost any BB type.

  • Oooh. You have me thinking now ;)

How's that cheaper than their own website??

  • I don't know.

Has the advantage that you can pay with a credit card, rather than the direct bank transfer that Power2Max make you use.

  • All sounding good. I need to think hard now.. It's a lotta dough!

  • If I was purchasing a new powermeter I'd get the Rotor 3D+ Power2Max.

Why so? I ask because P2M is my most likely option although I was thinking of either using the crank-less version and my own (SRAM) cranks (need to check compatibly) or buying the power-meter bundled with Rotor 3D.

  • ooop missed the new page. Is the Rotor 3D+ compatible with more BBs than the plain old Rotor 3D?

  • BOR RR666: BSA68, ITA70, Cannondale BB30, PF30, Specialized BB30OS, Pressfit BB86, BBright
    Lightning: BSA68, ITA70, Cannondale BB30, PF30, Specialized BB30OS, Pressfit BB86, BBright
    ROTOR 3D: BSA68, ITA70, Pressfit BB86, BB90
    ROTOR 3D Plus: BSA68, ITA70, Cannondale BB30, PF30, Pressfit BB86, BBright
    SRAM S900 (GXP): BSA68, ITA70, Pressfit BB86, BB90
TA Vega and Carmina: BSA68, ITA70
    tune Smart Foot: BSA68, ITA70, Cannondale BB30, PF30, Specialized BB30OS, Pressfit BB86, BBright
    ROTOR 3D MTB: BSA73, BSA73 +E-Type, Pressfit BB92
    ROTOR 3D Plus MTB: BSA73, BSA73 +E-Type, Cannondale BB30, PF30, Pressfit BB92

    .

  • Also, it is my belief that the 3D+ will work with BSA68

  • '68 BSA

  • I don't know.

Has the advantage that you can pay with a credit card, rather than the direct bank transfer that Power2Max make you use.

If you have a Rotor 3D crankset. What exactly do you need to buy?

I'm guessing BB and chainrings are transferable. But what about the crank arms/axle?

Can I really just swap out my spider?

(part of me really hopes the answer is no)

  • Even comes in black and yellow.

    *cuts credit card in two.

  • Yep, it's a straightforward case of swapping the spider- Power2Max send you the spider lock-ring tool with the power meter.

  • Wont work with my areo chainrings.

    .....so I mustnt buy one.

  • You just trim the plastic tab for aero rings- there is a guide on their site

  • Piss.

770 euros for a power meter, that doesnt alter my set-up in any way, and even matches my bike. Might need to look into to this around birthday time.

  • power meters are synonymous with zip ties, trims, bodge jobs and inaccurate results, with excessive price tags for any of this equipment, what is there even to consider?
    buy it.

  • I think if the road season was longer where I am, I'd buy it instantly, and take my road cycling more serious in general. Not saying you need this stuff to be considered serious. But, meh, I dont need carbon wheels either.

  • I've been working on reducing the number of zip ties currently in use on my bike I'll have you know!

    Currently 4.

Anyway, I'm all for power meter proliferation- it means I have a better chance of working out what the numbers mean at some point...

  • I think your last name is visible there Dammit

  • Your FTP is wrong Neil.

  • Training Peaks sets it automatically- I've tried to set it to something I think is more likely but it changes it back.

Do you know how to do this properly?

It's currently auto-set at 244 watts, hence the rather exciting TSS value in that report.

  • Odd that it over-rides the 100 TSS for > 60mins rule is impossibru rule.

Not used Training Peaks online so don't have any advice.

  • Fair enough. I guess the easiest way to sort it would be to do a proper FTP test as it should then auto-set the correct value.

Frustrating not to be able to just put a number in though.

  • With a Garmin Edge 500 you set it using Garmin Connect online and transfer values over to the Garmin.

  • Training Peaks online takes all it's values from the workout files- I save the output of my SRM in SRMWin, then use Device Agent to upload that file into Training Peaks.

So if it (it would appear) doesn't see (say) 20 minutes at 300 watts in the file then it won't change your FTP.

i.e. you can have anything set in the Garmin, but Training Peaks will ignore it for setting the zones.

Although it's a bit of a puzzler that it's set my NP at 248 for this ride, but left my FTP at 244, hence the 110% TSS.
