Anyone who doesn't get it, never raced before and spouting off about Cav should get themselves to Hillingdon and do a 4th Cat race!

Ugh. First stage and already this obnoxious. I think I preferred the thread when it was about picnics.

I think Yorkshire looked incredible, especially the footage from the helicopter, I hope it brings the prosperity which is hoped for in terms of tourism etc.
It's certainly made me want to go.

I preferred the dry stone walls era of this thread

Armchairs all round.
Way I see it is rush of blood to head causes his decision to headbutt / shoulder opponent.
In the moment so to speak. (Just like Suarez!) :o$
Other sprinters / riders / Hoy etc would not do this. (I think that is what people are trying to suggest.)

You wouldn't last 2 minutes in the football thread.
Maybe hippy can moderate this shit and move all the discussion about racing into the pro cycling thread and you guys can stay here and talk about picnics or whatever.

Comparing Cav to Suarez?! Lol. Sorry but you're an idiot.
If you don't think Hoy has ever leaned or used his shoulder in a sprint, YouTube is that way >>>>>

I think you've mistaken my point. I'd much rather a discussion about the actual race (even if it is disagreement/"correction" of other peoples opinions) and less of the posturing.

Sorry. I must be an armchair comedian.

That last one's the real crash lulz.

You need to do some 4th rate standup in Hillingdon

Got to say the Giro start in Ireland I was highly sceptical of because it was well... a bit shit in terms of spectacle and all that but today was ace, I think the organisation and the sheer volume of spectators was incredible-I think the Tour will be back in the UK soon.

Buttertubs looked like L'alpe!

Pisses me off that the Commonwealth road race will be shitty city laps instead of beasting out around the hills to the north of Glasgow, would have been very easily doable and look amazing on t'tele.

"I'm gutted about the crash today" Cavendish said. "It was my fault. I'll personally apologise to Simon Gerrans as soon as I get the chance. In reality, I tried to find a gap that wasn't really there .I wanted to win today, I felt really strong and in a great position to contest the sprint thanks to the unbelievable efforts of my team. Sorry to all the fans that came out to support - it was truly incredible."
That should help shut the experts up.

Cavendish separated the acromioclavicular (AC) joint between his right shoulder and collarbone when he tumbled to the tarmac after colliding with Orica GreenEdge rival Simon Gerrans a little over 200 metres from the line.
The 29-year-old had an MRI scan on the injury on Saturday night and planned to make a decision on Sunday morning as to whether to continue in the Tour with his Omega Pharma-QuickStep team.
"I'm gutted about the crash today," Cavendish said. "It was my fault. I'll personally apologise to Simon Gerrans as soon as I get the chance. In reality, I tried to find a gap that wasn't really there.
"I wanted to win today, I felt really strong and was in a great position to contest the sprint thanks to the unbelievable efforts of my team. Sorry to all the fans that came out to support - it was truly incredible."So it's not a dislocation it's a separation. Sounds pretty fucking sore. hope he can get back in the saddle but struggle to believe he'll be able to contend much over the next week or so even if he does.

I hope he can start tomorrow- but I also hope that if it is too badly damaged he acknowledges that and abandons, rather than risk FUBAR'ing it.

Im putting a shout for the hero of the day good old Jens. Great interview at the end too.
People wondering how crashes happen just need to watch that Tour de Suisse footage: riders staying up or crashing is decided by a hairbreadth. Occasionally a sprinter may pull a dick move, Ferrari in the Giro comes to mind, but mainly it's just bad luck.
Riders like to avoid crashes, not cause them.
