Oh do fuck off.
Since when does a press release reflect reality?
For a start, Cavendish didn't go for a gap that didn't exist, he was defending his space from Gerrans who was also trying to get on Sagan's wheel. He was aggressive in doing that, overly so in fact, but that's part and parcel of sprinting.
I'm glad he'll apologise to Gerrans but I'm sure Gerrans will just shrug it off as being part and parcel of contesting a sprint.
say what?
I mean seriously, Cavendish tells what happened, and now you know that's not true?
this is getting silly

Can we please instead talk about how epic Jens Voigt is?

Well day 1 was ace. Left Manc at 7.45am got to Addingham (Ilkley) to see the depart then rode Ilkley > Harrogate > Ilkley to see them 4km from home.
Had a touch of bars in the sprint* for Otley on the way back, we both stayed upright.
Also been lucky to be offered a floor to crash on, so home comforts and two big plates of lasagne ahead of day 2. Perfect.
- we were chatting not paying attention really

Whut? 4km from home? I was outside the three horseshoes by the 4km banner.

You've watched the race and seen the crash - did Cavendish go for a gap that wasn't there or use his head to aggressively defend his position?
I know what I saw, the latter.

I saw lot less mouthy man of roughly your age on a bike mostly and then another German won.

He got into a break he had no chance of winning, he did a solo attack, he got swallowed. Day at the office.

You are a right romantic are you not?

yeah kingsomethingorother village. we were between the banner and the ped crossing, oppo the house where the "ooo's" revealed cav's crash. There were 2 pubs just a bit further along, lovely but didn't partake.

I partook repeatedly.

Jens is good value, he does what he does in most races he rides. Probably his last Tour so the pack let him go, he got the polka dots which is what he wanted.

Are you insinuating Jens escape was a gift? Why? Surely that was a perfect break from the sprinters' perspective. Small, one rider with no experience, another with too much.

A break that went from 300m into the race.
-
• #666
So they stopped other breaks to give Jens his moment?
-
• #667
If they did, then that's quite romantic in its own way.
-
• #668
No more a gift than most breaks, but Jens may get more lee way than he did in the Tour of California and Trek will want some time in the sun.

For those meeting at luci's corner tomorrow, what time is the peloton coming through?
-
• #670
it's all on the official site as a pdf... have a dig around and you'll find it.
I just heard on the radio that Clav hasn't got a broken collar bone after all and will decide if he's still in the race tomorrow morning.

Always loved David Millar's cameo in Attack the Block

All breaks are gifts to a degree, until they become winning ones!

^^ That's one of the Treadaway brothers. Lovely guys which I went to school with. Good actors too.

Cav's not lost any of his aggression over the years but he's more measured, political with what he does and says off the bike.

No way the pack would have let lose a break capable of staying away, too much vested interest in a bunch sprint, and too many fresh legs. Any break was just the dangled carrot to keep the peloton moving. See how slow they were once Voight was caught? They ambled until 10k. That was a gift, and the polka dots.
