For all the armchair experts - crashes happen in bike racing. There is always hand-wringing afterwards and people pointing fingers.. The fact of the matter is; everything happens in a split second; there is NO intention, you just make a gut choice - sometimes you're right, sometimes you're wrong. Stuff like leaning is just part of the game - if the other person isn't ready for that they're stupid or shouldn't be in the mix.
Cav is as true a sprinter as there is out there, head up, straight lines. Yes, he can be aggressive, but all the best sprinters are. How many sprint and Kierin medals do you think Hoy would have won worrying about other people? Fuck all.

Good news if Cav can start, really thought that collar bone was popped

I gotta spread rep Dan, else you'd get some

Cavendish has a dislocated shoulder, but no broken bones. Not known if he'll start tomorrow but Patrick Leferve was saying he would if nothing was broken.
-
• #607
Dislocation though :(
I've done that before, hurt more than breaking bones. -

Saying it's a broken collarbone now...
(from Cyclingnews, claiming source is medical release from organisers).

Separation a la Ted King last year

Stuff like leaning is just part of the game
You take that back!

I'm not entirely sure what a "disjonction" (or clavicle disjunction) is. Anyone know their medical terms? (Ah, maybe ^^ - missed that)
(It's not a fracture, and the release says nothing new about whether he'll race or not - simply that it was said he would if nothing was broken earlier).

Game Over.

Name more than three.
I'll save you the trouble, you can't.
Three times is ok then?
Seriously I've seen him involved in far more crashes than the other top sprinters. Maybe not his fault every time, but he's pulled that shoulder move a lot.
Even if it's not intentional, then maybe that's even worse, as it just means he's reckless.
-
• #616
Seriously, you haven't.
If you could give me more than three examples you might have a case, but you can't because, despite what you might think, Cavendish doesn't crash much, or cause anyone else to crash. He is, alongside Kittel and Greipel, a very correct sprinter.

The Daily Mail reckons he'll start tomorrow :
And if the Daily Mail says it's true, it definitely is.
-

It's not a 'move' - it's leaning! Par for the course. NEXT...

Daniel Friebe, who ghost wrote Cavendish's autobiography, has said the decision will be made on whether he starts tomorrow in the morning.
He also said Cavendish will call Gerrans to apologise.

I can't, because I can't be bothered to google it, to prove a point on the internet.
Are you saying, in this case, what he did was right, and he's entirely blameless for his injury? Because that's my point. If he's out, it's because of his actions.
I love how defensive you guys are getting. I want Cavendish to win as much as anyone else, I just think he doesn't need to pull those moves.
-
• #621
what's there to apologise for if he did nothing wrong?
nevermind, I'll get back in me armchair

Out of interest, what do the experts think a move like Cancellara's does to the orderly conduct of a sprint? Can it make crashing more likely or does it not really have an impact on that? I was just wondering because the commentators always say how the sprint trains get messed up, etc.
-
• #623
I'm not saying that he's not at fault. But all the armchair experts who claim he is a dirty sprinter and involved in more than his fair share of crashes are talking out of their arse.
He's been at the top level of sprinting for 7 years, and has caused 2 or 3 crashes in that time.

Is interesting as that Daily Motion footage shows Gerrans pushing Cav over or certainly coming across his line moments earlier... (46s)

People aren't getting defensive, you said something incorrect and got called on it, then you fail to back up what you claimed.
He probably was at fault, he paid the consequences, but it is hardly habitual is it, like you were suggesting.
Make up your mind, is it some or many? :)
