The problem is, most seem to point backwards with only one or two pointing forwards. Who of Giant Shimano was in front of Cav at that point?

Really Shimano should put their Sport Cameras on the front too... but this might piss the riders off.

He was at the side... not in front, the images aren't that wide angle, you'd need to be a hell of a way in front.

Weren't they both trying to get on his wheel? I'd have to watch it again (which I don't really want to do).

As regards the Cav crash, you don't need ShimanoCam to see he was the author of his own misfortune.
