• Bottom two are rad to the power of sick.

  • Thanks MV. Both are very fun to ride, but I don't use either one enough. You can only use one bike at a time. Usually being the one you care least about.

  • this is very nice, what are these bars please?

  • Thanks, the Condor now has mudguards on it for winter. I have no idea what bars they are. They are steel, from old ladies shopper. They have a really nice shape and narrow. not found another set like them. They also take a barcon shifter. lost of shopper / north road type bars dont, i have tried.

  • Nice to see some more pics from your stable! That Barron is a thing of beauty and super light too.
The Diamante is coming along very nicely, excellent fade job - good work!!

(BTW: Done a bit of homework on the black frame, definately a conversion - mudguard eyes on fork ends have hacksaw marks & the line of rear dropouts as discussed. Turns out it's a 1960's Freddie Grubb - Brother's delighted with it too, once it's built I'll fire over a photo - much appreciated, cheers)

  • Glad its worked out with the frame. I have no real memory of buying it. .....think it will build into a really nice bike.

  • Couple of snapshots of its current, almost finished, state. Still want to swap over the stem, but until it arrives, the 3ttt one will surffice. Handles really well. Jumping over large speed humps with ease. Mega fun to ride.

  • looks rad as fuck i'm well jelly

  • ^this.

I really need to get on this rad do-it-all-and-have-fun-doing-it bandwagon, they all look so goood!

  • Thanks guys, really happy with it myself. .......but maybe scorch was correct. I have stared to like this bike a little too much for its intended purpose. Digging the colour, its robust, fun, surprising light and its fast..... I guess after a few nights out and a couple of big scratches in the paint it will be business as usual.

  • fucking rad, digging the lurid fade

  • Looks awesome.

  • new stem arrived today. looks like it has been painted gold in parts..........will fit it and see how it looks.

  • I haz pet hate of quill adaptors but if you can disguise it with spacers then maybe...

  • the Davidson has an adaptor........ fitted it....i think the stem looks good, pictures tomorrow.

  • finished...........

  • ridiculously amazing

  • Does it stop? Those canti angles look steep.

  • they seem to work well........ but always up for some advice / Knowledge.... are you referring to the pad angle or the straddle wire length?

  • We always used to say that the straddle wire should be perpendicular to the canti. which would mean those wires are a bit long.
Don't take my word for it though....

  • Basically, the nearer the straddle wire to the tyre the more leverage. Shimano straddles wires are designed at 90degrees.

    Sheldon explains it http://http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cantilever-geometry.html

    And this article shows it
    http://www.drystonepaul.com/maintenance_guides/MBUK_Canti_October_1995.jpg

But if they are working Ok, it doesn't matter. Smart looking build

  • What a beauty, just the right amount of fade! See a lot of kleins round Oslo and this one would give any of them a run for their money

  • Like this a lot. Reminds me of those old early raleigh mountain bikes with 501 frames.
Thought I would mention there is a safety issue with using a yoke and transverse cable on those cantis instead of a link cable.

    Check this out: 3rd paragraph

Is there any reason why people don't like using V-brakes on these bikes?

  • sausagefingers, paininthe and Rik Van Looy........ Guys, thank you so much. This is why i love this forum. Really appreciate the advice.
I am going to get on it. Though my brakes work well, i am going to shorten the straddle wire on my Barron's Shimano 600 cantis, see if improves stopping power......

I am going to hunt down some link cables asap.
though the article suggests the main issue was with knobbly tyres and the straddle wire snagging on the raised tread?
but to be honest, I would rather not take any risks riding fast on london's roads, cars forgive a lot less than trees.

I'm guessing, I would also need a link cable for my tandem? At the very least lengthen main cable and shorten the straddle wire? They are Shimano AT50 cantilevers........or maybe get some frogglegs??

And as regards V-brakes, for me its mostly aesthetic and find they work really well (and i have not even set them up correctly!).
I use mine in the city, so have no real issues with excess mud and clogging.....but i would like to know other reasons.......
