Ok,thanks for educating me! I just thought that different tubing would require different geometry ,for some reason.

No worries, which examples are you referring to that you feel the downtube is too fat? because the simple round downtube on the standard mash copy is already pretty thin, I don't know if Robert will be able to offer you something thinner, from his selection of tubing, that's gonna be strong enough. Also different tubing will cost you more.

If you think the downtube from a standard mash copy is too fat you should go for a steel frame.

an example.... -
• #4456
That's not steel is it. Same tubing as B0n0r's.
-
• #4457
That's what I meant. This is the standard tubing and isn't fat at all.
-
• #4458
Nope that's the triangular tubing, the standard is round.
for example:
My mate's standard spec mash copy in size large.VS
My old mash copy with the triangular tubing in the same size.

IndraRipper higlighted my issue very well. The triangular tubing looks much better ,so I'll just go with that. Does triangular tubing cost much extra or is it just one of the options? (The website seems to be down atm,so can't check)
Ps
Thanks for putting up with my silly questions -

I think it's just an option at no extra cost, my frame cost the original owner £90 so even if it adds to the price it can't me much.
-
• #4461
I think it added 25€ when I bought mine.

^^^^ that white one is fucking rad. Apart from the chub hub shimano nexus-alike (sorry I hate those things).
EDIT - and the welds. What is it that makes the blue one look so much nicer?
-
• #4463
Smoothed welds
-
• #4464
Thought that was likely the case. Is there any reason why welds usually aren't smoothed? Just labour?
-
• #4465
It costs extra because it requires extra work
-
• #4466
and it will slightly increase the weight. technically you'll get double welds....kind of.
but who the fuck gives a shit about weight on a mielec frame?! -

Cheers but I'd never let anything like a nexus near my bike, 'tis an izumi.

Here is an old picture from my Mielec. Got an XL with standard tubing.
Downtube looks pretty thin right?

That's some old Trek roadbike fork. Currently riding a Tusk Air. I will post a picture soon.

I'm currently riding with Sram S300 trackcranks with the standard 48t chainring.
I like to change it for a 50 or 51t Stronglight Zicral track chainring, but I'm not sure if this will work. The cranks have a 41mm chainline and with the Sram chainring I only have like 2 mm clearance to the chainstay. I think the Zicral is thicker and will hit the chainstay. Does anybody know if that's right?? -

Get smaller cog, job done.

Hello, I've been following this thread for a while and have finally made the decision to go through with the purchase of a mielec, but I have a slight problem- I really dislike the mash style down tube (it seems to be just to fat) .Thus, I turn to you , all knowing LFGS community. Please suggest some geometry that would solve my conundrum (the fact that I know nothing about bike geometries does not help)!
Hi,
Have you contacted them yet?
I emailed them about a week a go, haven't got any replyDave

I like big cogs;)

Probably has been asked before but I can not find it.
What's the biggest tyres you can fit into mielec mash thing?
I guess that it will be 28c but not sure.
Cheers
Dude changing the bikes geometry won't change how "fat" the downtube is, your only option is to speak to robert the frame builder about selecting different tubing to make the frame with.
