As the players rolled up to the, Newington, that theatre of polo dreams, tensions were running high. Wisps of cigarette smoke whipped around the goalmouths as pre-match nerves were settled. The wind roared in and scoured the leaves from the court. The teams charged and an autumn classic was underway. Initially two different styles of play blunted each other with the breathless energy of Dark and Stormy playing counterpoint to the languid passing style of The Goons. Nik, Antonio and Felix darted around the court, chasing everything and probing for openings in the attacking third. Jordan harried while Ryan and Ed calmly stroked the ball between them. After five minutes, the deadlock was broken and Ryan shot one home. In typical D&S style, they broke straight back with some direct dribbling and Felix equalized. They then put themselves in the lead through Antonio and it was game on. The larger squad of Goons was always going to be telling, particularly with the pace of the game and they soon brought on Bells who levelled the scores. Fran was introduced for D&S and put in a sterling shift, breaking up the opposition’s attacks at every opportunity. Goons rotated again with Adrienne coming into play as the teams traded goals, through Ryan and Felix with Nik going through on the half hour to make it 6-4 at the break. Ed, Ryan and Bells all scored again to put clear water between the teams. Ed was removed for five minutes after giving the big northern shoulder to Antonio who then led the fight back with three unanswered goals. After 52 minutes it was all level but the extra numbers made the difference and two more from Ed after his reintroduction put the game beyond reach.

Kev, did you see my post on the beginner's thread about old mallets to donate? Is there someone who might want to keep these for lending to beginners?

Doesn't look likely I'll make Souths tonight so happy to goal ref tomorrow night if need be...

The first half was quite even, with the teams twoing and froing between eachothers halves.
Alakazam opened the 2nd half strong and banged a load of goals in, getting a nice comfortable lead, it was at that point (maybe 25mins left of game time) that Chukkers fukkers just started pushing three out with little or no defense, which let them get penalised by the Cambridge guy on a girls bike wicked long shot. The gap only got bigger and fukkers continued to dig themselves into goal debt.

sure kev will write it up aswell but just a quick review of Chukkers v Doughballs as i reffed the second half:
This was a really tough, tight game Doughballs sitting and defending resolutely against overwhelming possession from Chukkers. Despite this it took around 10 minutes for the first goal with poor finishing throughout from both teams preventing a much higher score.

Generally a clean game with Mayeut (Man of the Match IMO) and Todd making some great plays. I thought Mayeut was amazing, cool, calm collected and he linked up with Todd and Kieron really well and scored some important goals.

Doughballs were really strong, playing on the break with an inspired performance from Daverage aided by some really good polo from the rest of the team, especially Jimmy and Matt who both had top games. Good team spirit and they never gave up, almost clawing back a win despite always being behind.
