I presume Wendy H is retiring because she is certainly burning her bridges, and making it very personal. If she is that generally that abrasive and even arrogant as she comes across in that interview you can she why she wasn't a preferred member of that team. There are plenty of people that have contributed to the success of the team that don't get medals, don't get the adulation or the newspaper inches and are just happy to be a part of it (coashes, soigneurs etc). Shame she is being so bitter, doesn't exactly endear her to us.
Laura Trott was amazing in the Omnium, riding an incredible devil and scratch race. She's like the baby-faced killer, looks so sweet but an absolute demon on a bike.
Loved the slo-mo montages the Beeb put together at various points (at least on catch up on the puter). Generally I thought the coverage and photography was excellent. Just a shame it is all over

The filiming and photogography from the bbc has been excellent throughtout the Olympics. Shame about some of their presenters and commentators

Given that Rowsell, King, Trott was clearly the established line up throughout 2012 surely it was naive to think that she was going to be in the team?
They picked a team who got the job done in style. Whatever the reason for her exclusion, she doesn't come across as a team player in these interviews.
She was clearly 'in the team' so why they couldn't have used her in one of the rounds seems odd to me, especially if what she's claiming is true.
The job might have been done better with her in the team. I'm sure the coaches don't mind since it all panned out well for them anyway but why do you think she doesn't sound like a team player - she was left out! Of course she doesn't sound like a team player, she's been kept as a bench warmer.

Wendy H is 37 and so this was her very last chance. Roswell might have been ill but her performances, all world records, do not seem to have been significantly impacted. The three young ones seem to have bonded in a team in a way that Wendy H does not. Put more simply, Rowsell and her back story are far more marketable than Wendy H and so if the choice was between two equal athletes, Rowsell wins every time. We also have a team for the future. Rowsell, at 22, has three Olympics to go before she is Wendy H's age.

Being good and having the data to back it up is not the same as being arrogant. Her attitude in this is AFTER not being selected. Do you think she'd be making such comments if she'd got a ride? All the other people that contributed and don't get medals (coaches, etc) CONTRIBUTED. Wendy didn't even get a chance. Perhaps it was justified but BC haven't said anything about it yet.

If her ability is as good as she claimed they could have used her in the second round and all this bad press would have been avoided. It would've been even better in fact as NI would have a medal. So I don't believe this marketable 'wonder team' guff.

The BBC didn't do the filming.

Yeah, I've been loving the super slow mo HD shots. You really get a look at stuff that has gone unnoticed in the past.

Perhaps they just didn't like her and thought that they would string her along for the ride just in case.

Not entirely true. OBS does most of the filming but the BBC can have their own cameras in places to get their extra footage.

I guess my point is that if she wasn't selected it was a performance based decision. I find it highly unlikely that British Cycling are making decisions based on personality.

Wendy came across as a real team player in the pre-Oly interviews- really talking up the team, the set-up and the work they'd done together.
Then they shafted her, and she kicked back.

Of copurse she contributed, in the preperation for the event, in the team training, in World Cup and Championship rides, she was an intergral part of the team. I struggled over the use of the word 'arrogant' (hence the 'slightly' preface) but being a athlete means sometimes you get left out. You might not like but it's just part and parcel of being in a team. You don't go to the media and piss and moan about it.
I appreciate what she has done for the team, I appreciate the stage she is at in her career and this is her last Olympics and I also agree it would have been nice for her to get at least one ride in the team. But these decisions aren't based on sentimentality, and I'm sure not on 'marketability', but on pure numbers and performance. GB is nothing apart from scientific. That trio broke the WR 6 times in sucession, you'd be a madman to fiddle with that sort of continuity and consistency.

Yeah, but then why is Wendy H claiming her performances were better than the others? Someone is talking shite...

It was all about the slo-mo shots, the mirrored visors, and the camera on the back of the derny bike

It's the Brits - this is anti-NI prejudice at its most blatant.

You do if you've been left out of 'the team' for perhaps no reason other than age or media-friendly rubbish.
If she's putting out the required numbers and part of the team then why was she left out?
Or is she simply lying and they knew she wasn't up to it?

They almost certainly led her on to make sure they had strength in depth. I do feel for her, because she is clearly a terrific athlete. But I can't believe that they excluded her just because they didn't like her.
