Presumably the car(s?) he rammed you into were damaged also?
Did the police check anything on these?
I didn't see any but it's very possible, as far as I know the police did fuck all at the scene.
Indra, if Control at the v&a are anything like the ones at my museum then they won't keep the footage for long, they have hundreds of cameras to deal with. I'd suggest getting your mum to call as they often respond best to a stern talking to. I'm away at the moment or else I'd go on your behalf. Good luck with it.
Thanks so much Hats, have sent an email tonight and will phone tomorrow as I have to take the morning off to see a doctor anyway.
You can probably speak to the officers that you have been dealing with and request them to get hold of the CCTV from around the time of the incident, they would be legally obliged to provide it then as it counts as evidence to a crime.
I will look into this too but I would sort of like to get it done by someone I know for peace of mind as the police haven't been amazing so far.

if anyone else saw the very nearly serious accident involving the rather charming lady drive across a cyclists path today at the junction of clerkenwell road/farringdon road circa 9am, please PM me. I know the cyclist didnt want to take it any further but I think her employer should be told about her attitude - to include but not limited to i) saying she would wipe me out ii)saying she was about to spit in my face etc
the more I think about it the more the drivers behaviour disgusted me. she works for hackney council, drives a white VW and has a tounge piercing so shouldnt be too difficult to suss out.

Thanks guys, I'm fine ATM, just got back from the station.
Me and Derek (BeastFTW) were on our way to LMNH from Richmond, we're around old brompton road when a car cuts him up, he taps the rear right side with a gloved hand, a bit down the road we stop to check phones and the driver comes up to us while on the phone to the police claiming that his car was kicked and damaged by the wheel arch (this would have been impossible considering the angle the car was sitting at and the speed we were going. He then ends up grabbing both of us and acting aggressively, tried to take our bikes off of us, we both ended up getting away from him in different directions.
About 500m away I've calmed down a bit and am riding along fairly slow, maybe 15mph or some when I this car about to overtake me, then I felt a large impact to my leg/bike and I'm slammed up against the row of parked cars, he then accelerated and hit me with the car again, I quickly dismounted by jumping off the back of my bike.
The driver then runs around and grabs the bike from me, it was only at this point that I realised he was the same guy as before, bare in mind that I wasn't even the one that hit his car, so at this point he has laid his hands on me and hit me with a car twice, he then phones the police again.
I later just pulled my bike out of his hands and wait for the police to arrive, confident as I'm done nothing wrong, the police then show up and begin to question us, Derek arrives about 10 mins later, I'd already called my mum to come down at this point, she then arrived, we packed my bike up and drove to the police station for me to give a statement, both Derek and the Driver ended up being arrested, such a shit thing to happen, he's only here for about 10 days before his next race and continuing travels.
There is some damage to my bike and my both my knees are pretty swollen, this will go further and I swear to god the driver will end up paying for the damage he's caused, hope he gets some jail time too, isn't intentionally and repeatedly ramming someone with a car assault with a deadly weapon?
I apologise for any spelling mistakes.
Really shitty thing. Glad you guys stayed calmer than I would if someone had hit me with their motor. Thing is these situations is getting to the feds first. The one that calls them first comes across as the victim and really will shape their approach.

Glad you're ok man. Have a look at this Argos repair list.
I've always wanted an Aende, so would be heartbreaking to see this die.

Was anyone witness to an accident on the Waterloo roundabout around 8am this morning when a motorbike clipped a cyclist's back wheel? If you are and you can remember any details of the motorcyclist please get in touch

Riding from Herne Hill towards Kennington on the A23 just outside of Brixton I was left-hooked by a white a BMW as it turned into a petrol station. Front wheel hit the rear of the car and I went over the bars, landing on my back.
Despite the driver insisting I was 'alright' police and ambulance arrived after an excruciating forty five minutes. They sussed from my call that I wasn't badly hurt. In the mean time driver gave me his details and I checked the bike out - minor scratches on the shifters and a scuff on the saddle seem to be the worst of it but the bike will get a full check later on this week.
Driver seemed keen to sort things out without having to go with his insurers. Let's hope he sticks to his word.

Ah man, sorry to hear you came off Howard, I hope you manage to sort things out with the driver.
You still in pain?
-
• #790
Hope you're alright. Offcourse he's keen on not going to insurance, he knows he's at fault and you can take quite a bit. Tell him you want cash on every part that's scratched. it's fair. and if he's fussy just tell him you'd do it on insurance then.

Bit bruised but nothing out of the ordinary. Will ache tomorrow I expect
But unlucky that I was riding my untatty cross bike. New rival shifters and stupid costly fizik saddle all got a scuff. But that will happen anyway through racing. Main cost will be helmet, handlebars, cab home, and anything else I can find seriously wrong with it.

Hope you alright mate. We met once at Herne Hill will Cedric... I think you are that Howard anyway... Don't sort it out with the driver, get a lawyer involved. Even a couple of bruises could get you a couple of grands on top of cost of any damage of your gears. I know this might sound greedy, but he was at fault, he has to pay for it. Full stop.

A couple of grands for what? A genuine question.
Also, if the driver is willing to sort it out, it would seem weird for me to try to make things as difficult as possible, for everyone involved. But I'm sure there is some underlying moral principle that I'm missing.

Many injuries and some bicycle damage only become apparent some while after an impact. If you settle to soon, especially if this is all 'informal' you can lose the chance to get proper compensation for all your losses. Get an incident number, give a formal statement to the police, inform the driver that the insurance company MUST be informed whether or not a claim is made and list EVERY expense you incur as a result of this incident.

For some of bruises and I am serious. The doctor who examined my injuries after my accident last year said his son got knocked off his motorbike (same difference here) got offered £4k for 2 legs covered with bruises with nothing broken or long lasting damages.
The driver might be willing to pay for any damage to the bike and if he is very nice, he might offer some cash on top, but as helly mentioned, some injuries only surface much later, I can only vouch for this from personal experience. Also, in all honesty, will he offer anything close to £1000+ for your injuries and inconvenience or will he just willing to pay for the cost for repairs / replacements of gears? As I have said, it might sound greedy and I went thought months of thinking I should drop my case and sort it out with the driver as he was very sorry, but then everyone told me it was his fault, he had to learn a proper lesson and sorting it out privately probably wouldn't create a as long lasting impact for the driver. After all, the money doesn't come out from the driver's pocket, that's what insurance is for and tough when his premium goes sky high, that should serve a reminder of driving more carefully next time. Sorry if I sound like a right bitch, but I have had my fair share of being nice to apologetic drivers.
Oh and Howard, if you didn't go to the hospital, make sure you visit your GP to document all injuries and take pictures of the bruises ad they surface up... heal up fast!

I hate this type of litigious money maxing. We all pay in the end through insane premiums etc. plus its bullshit. Of course a driver should cough for what's fair and fix a damaged bike but sniffing about for what can be got is really slimy in my opinion. It's up there with having a cry about fake whiplash after a minor shunt.
-
• #798
Don't think there's any sniffing about going on. I don't think that's whats being advocated either.
Ultimately I've been inconvenienced, hurt and had my property damaged by someone not paying proper attention. I'd like that put right.
I'm a contractor. If I was so badly injured I could not work, then I'd get very formal about the situation. However it appears I am not, so I'm willing to be fairly flexible.
My plan -
Go to GP to get neck pain looked at
Bike is going to Coldhabour's to get checkedIf GP is happy its nothing serious, then I'll call the guy and ask for him to cover the cost of the cab home from Brixton, the damage to the bike, and the travel to and from coldhabours and some kind of redress for the time.

I held back after my accident from asking for too much. Like you I was ok. Heavily bruised especially on my face but only scratches on the bike and I could do most things normally. However over 2 months later the scars are taking ages to go. I feel I should have taken slightly more money. At the time everyone urged me to claim lots on his insurance but IMH that's dickish, I hate this rotten suing culture.
Don't take more than you think you deserve, but definitely don't take less!
-
• #800
I'm not advocating taking less. I'm upset at the rhetoric along the lines of "my mate got thousands for grazed knees"... "You should take them for all you can - it's only insurance". Not a personal swipe and certainly not at you Howard for you have certainly been wronged. It's the culture I have a problem with.
