• Agree fully with Wrongcog. Get what's fair. Not more, not less.

  • BUT

Be cautious before concluding injuries are only transient or minor.

You don't know yet how your knee will feel for years to come, and how that might affect you. So +1 for full documentation in case it does need to escalate. If you are fairly sure that you have no serious personal or bike injury then full credit for dealing with it informally. Yes bad drivers need "educating" but we all pay insurance premiums - and the companies tend to wade in and make everything more hassle for everyone.

  • Chung - I don't think anyone disagrees with Wrongcog. However what is 'fair' is quite open to interpretation. Every case is different. The overriding message is summed up by s785.

+1 for this. After my ped crash my shoulder has never completely healed and I never asked her to cough up for medical at the time.

She never paid anything eventually, but that's another story...

  • Dealing with everything informally means a crash is not reported for statistical purposes, which has implications when trying to design safe streets. It is very easy to underestimate the long-term consequences of any crash.
The police are often dismissive or unhelpful after cyclist/motorist crashes.
I am not suggesting that you should be grasping or greedy. It is your right to be compensated for something that is not your fault. Insurance is there and compulsory for that reason. I am only suggesting you attempt to get that which is rightly yours. Cyclists often get the raw edge of the deal. That is not fair.

Yes it's a bike under a cement mixer. Apparently the guy is alive (according to a woman who told me she'd seen it) and in the back of an ambulance.

  • Yep I went past this on the old ford road. A miracle the cyclist only had minor injuries. The bike was totally crushed under te back if the lorry. At first glance looks like an undertaker- te cement mixer was turned left from Cambridge Heath road onto old frd road and had an audible warning going when I went past - but who knows what happened. I've got a couple of low quality pictures I'll try and upload in a bit

    Sorry for poor quality Etc

  • Minor injuries - lets hope that's the truth...

  • This afternoon I got wedged in the front of a bus. Can't go into too many more details at the moment as it's under investigation, but I hurt and my bike is a bit fucked. The bus driver was a dick for many reasons.

I'm so over having all this bad luck.

  • Heal up hats. And kick em in the lawsuit.

  • :(

  • Shit, hope you ain't too hurt.

  • Make sure you get the footage from the onboard cameras.

  • Fucksake... Thank fuck you're okay(ish).

    Oh god Hats :/

Heal up soon, hopefully it's easier to get something out of TFL than a private driver.

  • Really hope you are Ok Hats. Sending (((hugs))))

  • Hats

    Hope you are ok.

Definitely deploy a solicitor and get your injuries checked out.

  • :(

  • Ditto to all the good vibes, and ensure you (or a solicitor) get the CCTV off TfL sharpish.

  • Hope it's all right man. Work on getting what you deserve!

  • Thanks guys. I've got a bruise forming nicely on my arse and I feel awful about the whole thing - it keeps replaying in my head. This morning I realise just how lucky I am to be alive and it's scared the shit out of me. I can't imagine getting back on a bike for some time.

  • Unbruise soon, hats!
