Yep, track bike. Car pulled out with me from the cathedral gate road onto tombland, caught my rear wheel and went down, back end got dragged and crushed under the front of the car. Luckily slowly

Shit. Well, at least you're ok, could have been a hell of a lot worse at speed/a fraction of a second earlier.

crashed last night. wet drain/manhole cover! always try to avoid them but didn't spot this one. my left pedal took most of the force and was damaged so have had to buy a new set. thankfully I am fine and my frame is not damaged at all.

Good to hear you're ok. I did the same thing last month and was lucky I was going really slowly.

Just had a young boy (about 11) on a BMX crash into me. I was riding along London Fields West Side, where you don't normally expect any trouble. He came shooting out of a dead end to the left. I came to a full stop but he couldn't stop, hit me, and I went down on my right side. Very slight elbow abrasions and my right hand's a bit iffy (I supported myself with it), but that seems to be the extent of the damage. He immediately said 'I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry' and we agreed that it was his fault and that he would not shoot around blind corners any more.
Needless to say, his only thought was to scarper as quickly as he could. I couldn't stay serious because in my mind I was automatically playing through all the steps that I'd take in case of a worse collision, e.g. with a car, and it was slightly absurd to be thinking things like 'don't reply to his "Are you OK?"' question.
It's the second time another rider has crashed into me. The other time was on a ride in the countryside when he squeezed me as we were going around a corner. Both times very little damage was done, fortunately.

Hope you are OK oliver. London fields is a treacherous place best avoided in my opinion :)

I hope you're ok, Oliver, be more careful next time, I know it's not your fault but with more attention you could may have avoided. Parks can be dangerous places. I hope you recover soon and well, and thanks for let us know through the Essex Afterworkers thread.

I imagine he might be at Gayhurst. :)

To be serious for a moment, I thought about that--you should be able to see into streets you cycle past. However, he was invisible behind the wall alongside the path he was coming out of, as he was shorter than the wall was high even when he was sat on his bike. I was also quite far to the right, more than a metre, which considering that there were parked cars was quite a lot. The issue was mainly that while I could stop, he could not. I didn't see whether he had his brake(s) covered, or whether he even had brakes.
Parks can be dangerous places.
Yes, yes. This was just alongside the park, of course, on what is effectively an estate road. I'll complain to one of the local residents. :) -

That was RPM. Both times.
HTFU, Oliver!

One of my neighbours says she won't ride a bike around here "there are just too many cyclists".
Hope you are healing up Oliver -

Clip 'round the ear or kick up the arse. Or both, of course, your choice.
-
• #1169
Thanks, all, very little healing up really needed, as the 'damage' amounted to about a square centimetre of very slightly grazed skin on my elbow, and a bit of pain in my hand. The hand's fine now. If all crashes were like this one, nobody would take any notice of them. I mainly posted it just for the novelty value, as I couldn't remember reading about similar crashes before. :)

Update: driver has admitted liability. Paperwork headache begins.
Beater-fixed is back in my possession sporting a new and fetching Columbus Hiver fork.

Today on the way to track on Camberwell Rd and Wyndham Rd junction I was cycling on Camberwell Rd, southbound. When I was in the middle of the junction a 7 seater from another direction at speed took a right turn, right in front of me - I had to quickly steer left to avoid being t-boned and leaned with my right shoulder against the side of said car. The driver stopped and was very apologetic.
If I approached the junction a second faster or slower the outcome would all be a lot different.
On the way back from track on same road I almost crashed in to someone riding a bmx on the wrong side of the road in the dark with no lights, while being on the phone, a minute later pedestrian in the dark, right in the middle of the road.Camberwell Rd = shithole.

Indeed. What made the situation even worse, that it was rush hour and there was at least 4 cyclists behind me. None of them stopped.

I crashed this evening. Bent things include my shoulder and rear wheel.

I got the chance to check this kind of thing a couple of months back after coming off spectacularly on a wet bit of road. Of the three cyclists behind me, one asked if I was OK but didn't stop, one just went past, and another made a kind of annoyed tutting sound as she barged past me sprawled on the tarmac. So much for transport camaraderie.
A motorist on the other hand actually stopped, got out and asked if I was alright (I was).
Track bike by the looks of the pictures he's put on Facebook! Hope you get it sorted, Tom
