Collision with a car this morning, shitty bad luck basically, morning spent in hospital but all I have is a sprained arm, mild conclusion and three stitches in my chin.
Oh and the front end of my bike now needs replacing, new shifters, bars and possibly forks as well as a new chain, chainrings and chain that it already needed.
Thankfully my cycle to work scheme is pretty responsive and I'd rather not spunk a load of cash at the moment so I'm going to go with that, I was going to do it anyway but while my wife is feeling sorry for me she is less likely to give me a hard time for buying "more bike crap"!
Sliver linings eh?
Planet X carbon looks like it ticks most of the boxes..

Shit, unlucky Ed, harsh way to justify N+1 though.
And I've only just seen this thread and news of your crash Howard, shit news. Heal up quick and hope bike is OK and you get full compo.
-
• #1136
Glad you're both ok Ed & Howard.

Hah, yeah, I guess I'm OK except I cant really work with my right hand and I can't walk without a limp.
But given I T-boned a car at 20mph I'd say I came out well. No dentist bill, anyhoo.
Oncoming driver turned right without looking - I hit the passenger side wing and supermanned over the engine hood as the bike made a dead stop. Witnessed by quite a few folks, some of which were extremely helpful.
Sounds less painful than stitches and concussion, and it sounds like Ed's bike is in more of state than mine, so Ed wins I think.

• #1138
Sounds exact same as my off except I was tried to leap off at the lat second only banged my leg on he car but skidded across the same. If I was clip less I don't think I'd have been able. My pedal went into the fog light hole

Ped ran across the road into the side of me at 18mph last night. Hit the deck hard but somehow managed to avoid the kerb. Might have been a lot more painful if I'd hit the kerb at 18mph. He didn't look so good, ambo carted him off with a gash to the face. I have no recollection of what happened, I was riding along, and then I was sliding across the floor with my hands out. Witnesses said they were all waiting on the side of the road, and he must have not seen me and ran across the road. Police turned up, satisfied it wasn't my fault, they hung around for a bit, made sure I was OK, and then by the time I came out of the ambulance after being checked over, they were gone. Felt awful for the guy, he looked in a bad way, but then also felt lucky it hadn't been worse for both of us. Bike survived its second crash with just a seatpost that spun round a bit.

I had my first off in London today. Pootling through the park when I took a cock(er spaniel to the front wheel). Obviously I intended to D-lock the owner, but ended up having a nice chat to him about dogs instead. Minor scuffs to bike and knee (and probably dog, but she seemed unfussed).

Glad both dog and ffm came out relatively unscathed :)

Saw a dude laying at the side of the road looked on here-ish. Around 19:50 on old kent road near peckham/new cross junction. Stopped to see if there was anything I could do but there was a roadie taking care of him until an ambulance arrived. Hope it wasn't too serious!

Was riding fast downhill while the ground was a bit moist and as I was going into a hard corner, felt the bike lose a bit of traction (was going a bit too fast and cornering too hard), had a tiny wobble, regained control but was too late and ended up kissing a lampost/railings on that corner -- face first. People that seen me mash my face called an ambulance and the day ended with me having a nasty cut (11 stitches) between my eye and eyebrow, massive black eye + swelling, sore jaw and surprisingly, very little damage to bike (instant puncture and the lip of the rim is slightly bent at 2 parts). All in all, a shit experience but certainly made me appreciate and respect ambulance service a lot more and when I can finally see from my right eye and I get back on the road, I certainly won't be pulling hard corners like that anymore.
This one?

Car ran over the back of me following me out a junction at low speed. I'm mostly unscathed, but the bike's pretty ruined. Worth the hassle and time of a civil claim/insurance, or should I just push for a private settlement?
-
• #1148
If you know for sure you aren't hurt and the driver is happy to settle privately then go for it. I'd push for some kind of inconvenience damper though, i.e. they pay for transport to and from everything until your ride is sorted.
Knowing you aren't hurt is the key.
Still report it to the police for an incident number and stats.

• #1149
Yeah, all above board with the police and such. Just proceeding from here
