Can't keep from thinking that the Benotto bar-end plugs are letting the team down already, so I'm now on the hunt for some chrome-look Cinelli plugs with the flying c logo.
Does anyone have some of these lying around?
-

Looking good Gaz.
The black Cinelli tape is better IMO.
-
• #32
No no, not going for the tape - just the plugs.
(Although black tape would be better with the gold rims, but I'm pretty sure they're not staying) -
• #33
Some black Fizik microfiber tape would rock.

Naaaa, i'm loving the Benotto! Also going for period correct build, so Fizik's out of the question (although I have it on both my other bikes, and couldn't agree more that it rocks).
This is what I have in mind:
It's a shonky shopped version of chrisbmx's raleigh track... very similar build over all, and kind of making me think about resprays so i can get the ends chromed! Whole thing (flam red with chromed stays, forks, crown and bridge) would be about £350 at Bob Jackson. Maybe one day...always loved this, too:

Wheels arrived this morning. Got a bit excited and put black electrical tape on the front for that omega feeling, which I must say is pleasing me greatly. They're also about 3mm bigger than my other 700c wheels, despite having the same width tyres, but aren't as big as 27". Is that usual?? I actually quite like it, as it makes the clearances slightly tighter, but I am a bit confused... They're also extremely light, which I think has convinced me to go with tubs. Can anyone tell me what rims i have here? They just have the old Mavic logo in a red triangle, if that helps.

I agree it would look lovely - but chrome is not something that Chas (Roberts) has ever gone in for - my Dad discussed the subject with him once, and he (Chas) got quite animated about how it's a false economy, the risks of rust etc...

The wheels are 'Record du Monde de l'Heure' probably.
However, that machine needs a NOS set of Omega 19! Would look stellar imo.
And now I need some white benottos!

^Cheers, reckon you're right there.
If that's what they are, then it's no wonder the wheels are so light; only 270g per rim according to weight weenies! Omega's come in at around *470*g, and aren't tubs, so although they look good, they'll be a substantially heavier wheelset. That said, Campy Oldy does have readily available NOS pairs for £75, which is veeery tempting. Record Strada tubular rims are a bit lighter at 370g, and might be a good alternative, and Sigma Strada are 345g, but have blue stickers (which just might look good in a primary colours kind of a way).As you can tell by now, my priorities are getting a little confused, but I reckon my requirements are now (in no particular order):
-made by Campagnolo, black, tubular, light as possible, with decals to match the colour scheme.Decisions decisions!

That is a good point, there don't seem to be too many Roberts with chrome around.

Ready this damn you!
150 quid for that was the bargain of the century.
Lucky man!
You need this btw - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pair-NOS-Campagnolo-Omega-19-Clincher-Rims-700-C-36-Holes-28-Zoll-Felgen-/110910604948?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d2c98694

thanks for that - good call!
out of interest, does anyone know when these ones came out, and when the white+yellow ones came out? -
• #42
Ask Nigel! He'll know...
Nice of you to post my Geoffrey Butler... I'd +1 the comments about not chroming btw. I live in constant fear.
I have a rather used unicanitor on mine. And Omega 19s in silver. In no way 'correct' stuff for the frame, and road bars to boot. But it all works.

You can't see my lovely GB Kromo steel stem, but the chrome's a but fucked on it anyway.. -
• #44
Good idea, Nigel knows all.
And that's your Geoffrey Butler, eh? Good work... If the fear gets too much for you, give me a call and I'll take it off your hands for you. No problem. Just ask, etc....The only other thing to report build-wise is the recent arrival of a luxuriantly overpriced lockring:
Still, if a job's worth doing.... -

Hi, by any chance, anyone know the model name of the Raliegh red bike (on the handles). Apologies if it is already listed :)

It's a photoshopped 1972 Raleigh Track.
You can buy it if you like. -

mainly slowly, though.

So, another three weeks on, and I finally have some wheels on this! Campagnolo Delta V rims laced to low flange Pista hubs. I had decided to get Omega Vs in the end, as I found out they're remarkably light (despite the v section), and I thought they'd go well with the saddle somehow, but the Deltas look almost identical and are apparently even an upgrade... If anyone knows exactly what the difference between the Delta Vs and the Omega Vs is, please enlighten me.
The front is radially laced, which I might change when I get round to it, but for the meantime I am very happy as everything's in top condition (brand new spokes, NOS rims, and hardly a mark on the hubs), and they came fully built, which saves me a bit of cash... The tyres are Veloflex and I spent a small while this morning struggling to get them on without scratching the rims. I ended up putting the logos on the non-drive side to keep things looking clean this side, even though it took me ages to find ones with the old fashioned font. There aren't too many things left to get now: Cranks, pedals/clips/straps, campag seat post bolt and a pair of winged C bar stoppers. Oh, and a chain.
The plan is either to get Campgnolo pedals, with Cinelli clips and straps, or some old school Cinelli M71s on there. That way all the contact points will be made by Cinelli. I'd be interested to hear what people think about the M71s???And, whilst we're at it, what chain should I be using?
you just need these:
