  • ^This.. Do not paint, this "paintjob" created over time is boss hogg.. History adds to the beauty.. From women to bikes to architecture.

  • I'm trying to convince myself that, but im a perfectionist at heart so its difficult. :)

  • George, I'm now in the process of finishing an architectural design studio with the repurposement (english?) of a former factory. I too am a perfectionist, but this project really showed me to appreciate the beauty and qualities of decay. The Japanese even have a word for it (beauty of decay) which I am too lazy to google. The Japanese.. They built that frame.. The fact they have a term for that shows that you need to keep it like it is..

  • I do understand you mate, its your bike so do what you want to it.
Me personally Id keep the finish, but on the other hand if you want to make it look great and unique it doesn't have to be raw.
Just make sure you give it to people who know what they're doing and have quite a range of choice, I heard beta blast are decent, and you can go for pearlescent or some other sick stuff, they are also bit cheaper than london's usual suspects:)

and H+ is the way to go mate:D

  • Thanks man, lots of conflicting ideas, on the one hand i want that hhsb deep rims and all that, and on the other hand its low profile rims with all classic looks. I'm now thinking nmsw 30mm rims, maybe H+ or velocity, on phil hub still.

As for the frame, until i can decide on a new colour it will stay as it is, but i would like to repaint it at some point.

  • Can't believe you would repaint this, one of the coolest paint jobs I've seen.

  • Tm i think your new panasonic has a lot to do with my confusion. ;)

And thanks man, maybe i won't paint it then.

  • whatever you do don't repaint it

  • whatever you do don't repaint it

    ^totally agree with V-L don't do it

  • I wish the Panasonic had that paintjob, rad to the max!

I was looking at the hson archetype, they're a nice in between a box section and a deep section rim.

  • Haha, fine, its pretty obvious what everyone wants.

Ok its either an all black rear wheel or all silver?

EDIT: yeah the archetype does look nice,

  • Put it to the vote...

    George's wheels -

  • meet in the middle guys, archetypes come in this grey ano, which i think would suit the frame very well

    George's décision.

  • V-L i really cannot decide, the vote works for me. i know you said silver so.

    ffs!

  • The grey could look mega, I just thought the silver would be a real classy look...

  • I like both colours, I'd probably go for grey, as its easier to keep nice.

  • Silver

  • those silver rims are purty shiney

  • quite liked the look of those new hson with more of a v profile as well. if you are going to go for the TB14s i'd suggest searching around for something like the ambrosio excelight as you might be able to get them cheaper. same rim profile, smaller price tag (maybe).

i meant the archetype when saying this. grey ano! would be beauts. are there any close-ups of the paint, what even is the finish? grey with purple pearlescence? whatever it is, keep it.

  • Yeah it looks like grey archetype is the fave. Joe the finish is a mix between silver, lavender and raw.

  • its gorgeous. those grey archetypes are also extremely nice looking, kinda want some...

  • Am I missing something on the paint job?

I'm all for keeping original paint jobs, but hasn't that already been stripped, with the head tube left? You should be able to tell by whether the decals are under a clear coat.

I think the build looks nice as it is and you should leave it.

If you do want to change the wheels and you want phils, I'd say low flanges are a must as the high ones look silly imo.

    Then my choices would be:

    1. 28h/24h 38mm carbon clinchers, silver spokes, nips and hubs;
    2. 32h/28h TB14s in grey ano, silver spokes, nips and hubs;
    3. 32h/28h TB14s in black, silver nipples, black spokes, black hubs.
  • No i'm pretty sure that it was originally this silver colour, with the lavender colour on the head tube and possibly the seat tube, although we will never know about the seat tube as it has been replaced and the paint is gone.

Anyway, I've ordered a high flange rear phil in polished, this is a track bike after all, so high flanges suit it fine.

And after some thought (and help) i also went for the grey archetype rim, now waiting for it all to show up so i can build it!
