  • andyp is DTM until we are even on the ti bike front

  • email from Don at Lynskey

"James, they are in mitering now, which means welding is next, and finishing is the final stage. "

So hopefully see the frame in mid July.

    Woohoo!

  • Great timing.

  • so my birthday present to self will arrive a couple of weeks late, but am really quite excited

been putting in lots of overtime to help fund it

  • Does that mean you can ride with me to Morocco?

Pffft, I just went to a shop, and said "I'll have that one please", then rode it home.

And had change for crabon tubs.

Not jealous in the slightest ;)

  • ed, am not planning on a trip to morocco right now but let me see how i get on with the bike

  • one month? september? you know it make sense

    Woohoo!

So they actually haven't started building it yet - as in "it's still in bits"?

The best part is "finishing is the final stage".

    Really?!

  • Following have been ordered

    Shimano 6600 GS rear mech
    Bontrager Hardcases
    Hydraulic hose holders

The hose holders are needed because the frame is designed for cable actuated brakes, though I may get the bosses drilled out in due course.

A stem has been located via the forum - though poss not quite the correct length.

So now I just need to collect the spare STI from a friend, and order some bars and tape.

Oh and the further delay now being suggested by the UK distributor, instead of early July it is now looking like mid August. This is a major hassle as I have been asked to help on a mini tour for some kids with a few difficulties at the beginning of August. This bike would be perfect to take, so really hoping to have it all resolved in time. The idea is lead the children on a longish road ride to a camp site and then do a day of offroad riding, before bringing them back to London.

Howard on here tried to order the same frame last year and was utterly messed around by Hotlines who distribute Lynskey in the UK. He ended up giving up and getting an entirely different frame, just because it looked like Hotlines would never deliver. Thankfully Lynskey have sent an email to the distributor asking them to try to help me get the frame in time.

Given that I may well be using the bike for some proper offroading, can anyone suggest a set of reasonable CX tyres for general purpose off road use?

  • Michelin Mud 2s. Good in mud, but work well in drier conditions too.

  • ^ Yeah them or Maxxis Mudwrestler. I was running Mud IIs at swinley and yes they grip but at 32mm (more like 30mm actual) they don't hold a whole lot of air. The Maxxis, at 35mm, might give you a nicer ride on the really rough stuff.

  • I now have a pair of working DA 7800 shifters, the left hand one was obtained for the princely sum of an ice cream sundae from Marine Ices.

  • my rear mech has arrived now

  • very nice, though i am quite looking forwards to the CX frame with the clearance for larger tyres and some off road capability

  • one worry i had was previously stans had suggested the rims might not be ahppy with a full pressure road tyre

    http://messageboard.notubes.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3329

"Using a road tire and tube you can inflate to the max pressure listed on the tire."

So I can now use the road tyres at full pressure. I am getting more excited about this bike.

The final bits have been ordered.

    Spec

    thomson stem and seatpost
    st ergonova bars
    lizard skins bartape
    arione cx saddle
DA 7800 sti and front mech
    ultegra cassette and rear mech
    kmc x10-l chain
hope headset, bb, v twin hyrdaulic disc brakes, rotors, hoops laced to stans crest rims
Acor Hydraulic Adjustable Universal Line Guide
    bontrage racelite tyres
    sks chromoplastic mudguards
    topeak disc rack

anyone got some black headset spacers?
have i forgotten anything? - will be stealing pedals from another bike

  • Chainset?

  • I can't ride, this is a titanium velocipede

    Actually ultegra compact

  • Fuuuuuu

Just been told that my lbs can not get the kinesis dc37 fork

Anyone know of a 1 1/8" carbon fork for disc brakes and mudguards?

Does not need to be full carbon.

  • can you not order it from kinesis directly?

  • They have tried, not available for months

  • maybe ask On-One if they sell you a dirty disco fork.

or this until the Kinesis becomes available: £30

    http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FOOOP12/on_one_pompetamine_2012_fork

  • Those are the two I have been looking at.
