  • Newbaum, I find much to my surprise that cotton tape feel very comfortable because I didn't squeeze the bar that hard to hold on to it while descending, but on my other bike with full cork grip, I squeeze harder as to get a frimer grip due to the soft nature of the cork, much like those touring tyres that felt spongy even when you pump them up to the max pressure.

  • ed where did you get those white in cranks? tfg is expensive place to buy ..

  • What bottle cage is that? Sorry for the laziness, I don't really want to have to looks through the 7 pages of this thread.

  • You don't have to, just look at the 3rd post above you.

    Thanks. I'm thinking about some cheeky gel pads under the cotton. But it might not be much of an issue anyway, I ride on the hoods most of the time.

  • For the best of both world, someone suggested tightly wrap some cork grip, and then apply the cotton tape over the cork.

  • Might be a bit OTT. I don't like squashy tape either.

    Couple more questions - it doesn't have any adhesive on the rear, I presume? Also, where do you buy yours?

  • It does, and at hubjub;

    I'm going for eggplant with a laquer raw paintjob (the paint that is, not literally raw).

  • Nice one, thanks Ed.

  • why the weight weenie cables ed?

  • A lots of the part are weight weenie already, the old school shifter, brake levers and cable all still less than the weight of a modern Dura Ace road shifters (280g vs. 350g).

    The housing is more for function than weight, they offer better performance, easier to maintain, and the length is adjustable.

  • What's the 'preferred' brand of cotton bar tape, Ed? I'm considering some for the Bob as it'll need re-taping soon.

    Whatever you do don't be tempted by Cinelli cotton tape.

    Noted. I've ordered the Newbaum's. Won't be shellacking it as I quite fancy it looking like this after a while:

  • It's actually feel nice and soft after a while which is nice, also very unlikely to rip as normal tape does.

  • Ryan actually have to make a tools to get the right curve for the seat stay bridge in order to fit the steel mudguard perfectly, top man!

  • Another great project. Looks like its gonna be a well thought out bike!
    I miss not having i project, im jealous!

    Those white cranks are very pretty!

  • The White Ind site isn't exactly full of info and this is maybe silly question but are the chainrings alu or steel?

    This project is exactly what I'd like my old 3speed Puch to be if I had the money.

    But of course if I'd spent moneys on it then I'd love it too much and not want to use it in the rain/salt etc which is what the Puch is all about.

    The eggplant wears and fades nicely.

    So you're not going to paint it a colour? How come?

  • It will be painted in the colour of a raw lacquered steel, I wanted a dark silver/gunmetal paint job, and I loved how naked steel look in lacquered but would rather it to be consistent than sporadic with odd little welding bits and discolouration.

  • With mudguard;

  • Love the curved brake bridge. I had a 1950s Claud Butler with an identical-looking one, it was gorgeous. Such craftsmanship!

  • Cool. I think that will look really good.

  • Looks really good, saw the tube bending on Ryan's Facebook and wondered what it was for.

  • no updates on here? Ryan showed me pictures today!

    taped my bars today in double layer of Velox black cotton tape. same as newbaums to be perfectly honest.
