Velo Orange front one for now, until I can afford to have a custom stem/front/rear rack.

The Hope hub would make a pretty incongruous noise for a 650B rando...
-
• #304
Ah, but for I am deaf, and the noise would wary off the wheelsuckers.
-
• #305
It will also drive you mad.

Good looking build Ed. Coming along nicely.
Stupid question, but tyres for 650b are the same as 26 x 1 1/2 right?

Will point out to the first sentence;
**Ah, but for I am deaf, **and the noise would wary off the wheelsuckers.

If the 26 x 1 1/2 is 584mm, then yes.

All my freehubs are noisey. Just keep pedalling all the time.
I actually have a bike that requires such constant pedal action.
-
• #309
Also, if you're cycling down a country path, you can subtly let peds know you are approaching. Seems more polite than a bell.

^ Look out you're being chased by a swarm of angry bees ...?

^Less scary than a fast moving, over enthusiastic, MAMIL on a MTB

Or scaring a horse in the case of Fox.

I forgot to reply to that thread, but yes, a Hope freehub definitely spooks horses - after that incident I passed three in a row and conducted an experiment, as soon as I stopped pedalling the horse freaked out.
Smallfurry is right in that you should be constantly pedalling anyway. I think of it as a reminder to start pedalling again, unless I'm on an epic descent.

I have a hope tandem hubbed wheel I used on a tourer. Like towing a bag of spanners.
Not ideal on a majestic freewheeling descent on Skye.
Hub is a thing of beauty though.
Threaded NDS for a drum brake, weighs a ton.
By contrast the freewheel pawls in my Mavic hub are almost silent. -
• #315
Hope it is, since the noise would not bother me one jolt.
-
• #316
Surely it's got to be a full DA build :(
-
• #317
It is a lovely project tho ed. In fact asides from the never-ending-story of Smallfurry's BMC and Fat Bike's I'd say it's my favourite.
Oh and what is this rack?
-
• #318
ps found this when trying to find the rack:

some nice stuff.

Looking good, Scoblatron... Welcome to the Oak family...
Do you have one?
-
• #320
Looks like quite a small rake on the fork I thought you would have gone for classic low trail French geo?
-

Do you have one?
Yup!

Should be enough, here's the geo chart for the Oak;
Here's a full view;

Oh right, cool. It's hard to tell without the fork in the frame and the bike built up.
I'm used to low trail forks having the bend at the fork ends. -

Pretty much collected 90% of the part.
Most of the part are with Ryan (brakeset, mudguard, rack);
Gonna put a cheap 100mm stem on and cotton bar tape on.
-

King Cage Iris? Nice set of parts.
What's the 'preferred' brand of cotton bar tape, Ed? I'm considering some for the Bob as it'll need re-taping soon.
Care to elaborate on this? Power, easy wheel removal, clearance, etc... I fail to see why suggesting disks for this project is comical other than the perhaps non standard aesthetics
Thanks for that explanation Ed, seems like you've really done your research. Best of luck with the project, are you getting a custom rack made?
