The curious thing about this election is that it is not seen as Labour vs Conservative. It's Boris vs Ken. I wish it wasn't, but it is. Just as Labour could not have found anyone else to have a chance against Boris, the Conservatives could not have found anyone else to have a chance against Ken.
I find the constant use of their first names nauseous which is why I use (and generally mis-spell) their surnames.
The way in which they have both sought to make this a battle of personalities and egos revolts me.
Jenny is a far nicer person ;o)

The Tories tried with Shagger Norris, an exceptionally weak candidate because they knew they could not win London. Johnson came along at a time when they wanted shot of him from Parliament and when Livingston was seen as a point of weakness for Labour and Labour was already weakened as a result of 11 years in power in Westminster.

Oh, and 'rosacea'.
I suffer with it. I am allowed to mis-spell it.

I agree, it is very important not to make it about personalities and peccadillos and to keep it about policies.
-
• #282
I honestly cannot remember his first name. He was always referred to as Norris or Shagger Norris.
-
• #283
That was in the days before we were all first names with our politicians.
-
• #284
I personally found Shagger to be divisive/devisive/decisive/derisive figure, never seeking to include the Non-shagging community, only interested in his own ilk/penis.

I voted for Frank Dobson. Not many on here can claim they did that.

Norris was an irrelevance. I don't wonder where he is today.

Dobbo, such a great candidate there was never a job in government for him again. If you read Blair's autobiography, and I recommend that you do not, you'll see how cynically he was used and how glad to be rid of him New Labour were.

He was a bit of an idiot. I worked at the dept of health when he was health secretary. He insisted his Christmas message to the staff itself a nice touch, was personally sent by mail, to each and every member of staff to make it more 'personal' taking on the extra temp staff to do that (of which I was one) and paying for the postage, cost the tax payer over a million quid. And of course it was no more personal than if he had emailed the damn thing. Most went straight in the bin.
I still reckon he would have beaten Norris if Ken hadn't been there. And Johnson may not be mayor now.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-17902307If ever there was a clearer example of Boris' suburban motorist electorate. It's not a crime, but it's not recognised to be the case with the "cycling mayor".

Jesus, he appears to have lost it. -

on the contrary. You can almost hear the shouts of "Boris! What a ledge!" from other people watching the video.
Never mind the fact that he's only swearing out of desperation to deflect attention from what a filthy little fucker he his

Boris fight-back by Gilligam in the telegraph attacking the cycling lobby

Gilligan's eyes bulge at any prospect however tenuous or invented to smear. He even fucked up a legitimate and important piece of reporting about the Iraq dossier, by desperately trying to incite Alistair Campbell. His journalistic standards resulted in his sources suicide, and brought down the head of the BBC, whence upon Gilligan fell into Boris's arms; a marriage made in heaven.

Boris fight-back by Gilligam in the telegraph attacking the cycling lobby
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/andrewgilligan/100154529/boris-johnson-meets-the-cycle-lobby/Gilligan really does have a chip on his shoulder about Ken's tax situation. Good job the Tories and their donors are so well known for their rigorous adherence to the tax laws, or he might be branded a hypocrite.
The man is clearly a tool. So keen to emphasise his own credentials as a cyclist, but then keen to point out he's not part of this mysterious, homogenous, elite cycling lobby that seems to include everyone but him.

Have you ever looked into how Livingston became leader of the GLC?
Accusations of Gerrymandering were made at that time. Living by the sword...
