oh,i now see what you missed..one can unscrew that allen key built in thing itself,revealing a threaded spider arm.. so the chainring bolts directly to the spider..off to google for it..had to use some violece and to het the cilinders out,sie they wereld locktited in..excuse these werd autocorrects though..dutch autocorrect and on phone

Oh i see, doesnt look like they have allen key fittings in the bottom though. i dont fancy clamping them incase the fold up. i'll look into it in work tomorrow.

He was in rowing (sculling actually) training. Spacers etc acquired in work today, I will nip by my lbs to borrow their campag bb tool tomorrow and fit the cranks as soon as i'm home from work.

Doesn't work like that, the cranks have the 'non-allen' side of the bolts built in and their designed to be used with two rings and a spacer. So even with single rings you need a spacer because the bolt just butts up against the end of the standoff as you can see in this:
