  • Thanks for that.

Ive downloaded the sdk manager from here
    https://developer.android.com/studio

However when i unzip the file there is no exe file i can see to run the program as per the instructions.

    What am i doing wrong?
    Ta

  • So I do this:

After downloading the ISO file, you'll need to use Boot Camp Assistant to move it to a bootable USB drive.
Insert a USB flash drive to your Mac. ...
    Open Boot Camp Assistant. ...
Check the box for "Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk" and deselect "Install Windows 7 or later version."
    Click Continue to proceed.

After a bit I get not enough memory. Any ideas please?

  • Completely basic question, can anyone recommend a decent Bluetooth mouse, preferably rechargeable? I have started using Maya that requires the middle mouse button... so my Apple mouse isn’t good enough. Got a couple of wireless mice but the receivers are gone so Bluetooth is quite important... ideally less than £20...

And my cat had also adapted an actual mouse! Yay!

  • I got one of these for £20 or so on Amazon.

Not rechargeable but the battery lasts ages.

  • Bloody right handed thumb buttons..

  • A bit of a weird one, but does anyone want to buy a Fusion-io 825gb PCI-E card?

I'd imagine it would make a fantastic scratch disk.

  • Logitech mice, they are good! Thanks for the recommendations!

  • @SPOTTER I might be interested in the Fusion card. I'll PM to discuss.

  • Running an optimisation scan with BullGuard it says I need to close chrome.exe and try again. As far as I can tell I don't have a malicious .exe running so what does this mean? Anyone? Thanks.

  • ctrl + alt + delete -> task manager -> close any Chrome tasks

  • Thanks Sumo.

  • My (Win 10) laptop is running really hot at the moment (early generation i7 so has always run a bit hot).

I'm planning to open it up and give it a spray with compressed air as I suspect it may be a bit clogged up with dust.

I also suspect that there are a few things chugging away in the background causing an issue too. I can't find anything in task manager and I've run ccleaner, malwarebytes, etc to check there's no malware or anything causing the issues.

Is there anything else I can do short of a clean install? I can't really be bothered reinstalling everything (in particular I've got a load of symlinks that I can't remember where they're pointing from/to that I don't want to have to set up again).

  • Open msconfig and turn off all the extras running on startup?

  • Any processes causing it to run hot should be very obvious in task manager, I'd be surprised if malware was responsible for something like that. Only exception would be a dodgy GPU-mining thing.

Also, shortcut to bring up task manager directly is ctrl+shift+esc.

  • When I try to watch videos on Tiz cycling, which have always worked before, I get a plain red screen. I had some problems in the past with videos going green and the PC restarting (though it hasn't happened in a while, I think it was a driver issue). I'm not having any issues on any other site. Any thoughts? Win 10, PC is few months old.

  • Are you running an ad-blocker or something similar?

Disabling it for that site may help you watch it, but there could be consequences.

  • Cheers. Startup is already pretty pared down.

My main thought is some system process is causing it but I can't see anything obvious.

  • D'oh. Thanks Brun, it was indeed the adblocker.

  • Dust quite likely.

Might be worth giving it a small undervolt to take around 5degrees off the temp.

  • Cheers. I assume an undervolt would also impact performance which I'd prefer to avoid.

  • Not from the reading I've done. I'm running -110 on my i7 laptop happily with no performance impact. Stress testing I did suggested it would happily run at -130 and I walked it back just to ensure it wasn't hindering the processor (which apparently it doesn't do anyway). I got a 10 degree heat difference which has really improved things which is important because this one really likes to thermal throttle.

  • Cheers, I may look into this then.

Is it through Windows based software or the BIOS or something else?

  • I use Throttlestop. The options on it are a bit baffling but there are loads of undervolt guides which show the elements of the program to use. If you want it to run at startup/login it has to be done through task scheduler but that is easy to do.

    This GUIDE seems pretty comprehensive

  • Also try services.msc, and disable as much as you dare
