  • I'm going to have shiny new things to put together tomorrow. Exciting.

  • What did you go for Sumo?

I'm tempted to give water cooling a go. But I think the biggest upgrade I could do right now would be more RAM and an SSD.

    Hmmmmmm

  • My H80 was a piece of piss to install and i've get to see the CPU temp top 55c, but ram and SSD are probably better upgrades

  • How hard is it to move the operating system over to another drive? The windows I brought was OEM Windows 7. Is that still easy enough to move?

What's the best process for doing that too?

I thought the same spotter - maybe water cooling in the future. Once I want to over clock my k properly, which at the moment is pointless because it handles everything fine.

I could get the RAM for around £40 and the SSD which means the total would be around £100.

  • use something like clonezilla to copy the OS over, very easy to use.

  • Got all the parts today, put it all together without issue but now it won't turn on for more than a minute at a time. At first it was because I didn't connect the GPU properly, but now I can't work it out. Tried with 1 stick of ram, 2 sticks of ram, different GPU, different PSU, checked the wiring for the buttons and LED's. I'm stumped, so I've given it to the computer shop downstairs to have a look at.

  • Was the power supply you tried a different voltage?

  • ATI drivers blue screened me mid GTA IV install, is there a nifty little program someone can recomend to uninstall half a program

    Xigmatek Asguard case,
    Arctic Freezer 13 CPU fan
    32gb DDR3 ram
    Novatech 300gb/s wireless card
    OCZ Z Series 750w PSU
Akasa case fan + one that came with the case
    ASRock 970 Extreme3 mobo
    AMD Phenom 2 quad 965 AM3 at 3.3Ghz CPU
    HD 68501gb GPU
OCZ 120gb internal SSD 500mb/s up and down.
Buying an optical drive from the shop later today and wiping the 500gb internal drive from my old computer and putting it in.

    no

    Does it get past POST?
    Did you flash your Mobo?
    Can you get into BIOS?

Remove the unstalled registy keys and let CCleaner do the rest.
And yeah GTA will be a good 15/16Gb by the time its done.

  • It will turn on, say a couple of things including "the BIOS has no set time, press F1 to continue or F2 to set it". So I can press F2 and get in to the BIOS, but thats about as far as I can get before it just turns off.

revo uninstaller just did it all neatly for me.

  • Nice^
Sumo have you tried booting without the GPU?

  • ^ this

    Process of elimination.

  • yes, got the POST and all that.
Just picked it up from downstairs, the guy was like "did you built this yourself? You built it very very badly".
    Ha!
    It works now.

  • Just turned off windows hibernation and lopped 16gb off my windows install

  • installing Win 7 now

  • 32gb DDR3 ram

sorry for the slow response, I forgot who made the image (credit: CYOA)

  • Installing gta at the moment. Graphics look amazing on pc.

  • right, just got back from a restaurant. Put in and wiped my old HDD and am now downloading battlefield 3. This thing is pretty damn quick.
