Your telling me spotter right annoying. mine wouldnt connect to games for windows for ages either, got there in the end it runs much better with all the patches.
Theres some tips on the steam forums to make it run better .
its a quick fix, you just to make a txt file called 'commandline' in the GTA folder and then put in it '-norestrictions' then presto I'm running it on everything maxed out @60fps

Mind linking to that spotter or is it as simple as that?? My grahpics are already running full according to that game which i dont believe.

I'm kinda tempted to buy another ssd and stripe them they're only £100...
Got an email from ebuyer today and was sorely tempted 97 I believe.

Is it in the root folder??
-
• #132
of the game yes so for me it was
E:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV
-
• #133
And what does it enable you to do?? at the moment if I put everything on full it warns me. when really it shouldnt as it's a 4 yo game.
-
• #134
it turns off restrictions like that
-
• #135
Ah I see. is it worth keeping an eye on graphics card temps or not?
-
• #136
yes just to be on the safe side, the fan sound will be an indication

Gaming laptop. Good budget. Aesthetically pleasing (i.e. not one of those garish alienware jobs). GO.

go and watch something at the IMAX. oh... wait.
-
• #140
seriously though why a gaming laptop? you could spend less on a tower and get more
-
• #141
Exactly what I was going to say Spotter. Even if you build a micro case it'll still be portable.
-
• #142
^^Because I'm not paying for it. And they said they'd get a laptop to replace my dying one. I would have asked another MacBook to replace mine so I can continue to use Motion and Final Cut but - fuck it. I rarely edit on the road and have a windows copy of CS5.5. So am thinking use my iMac as an editing station and having a portable windows machine that's capable of playing BF3.
^ Need to be able to type word docs on planes - I'm not carrying a monitor and portable generator around :)

for £500 what would be my best option for a desk top PC
Chillblast Fusion Neutrino
Acer Aspire M5201
both recommended here
http://www.itproportal.com/2009/04/13/uks-top-5-pc-desktops-under-500-may-2009/but as per Sumo above I am moderately tempted to get something higher spec and built it myself
i have no experience of this and am not majorly tech savvie ?
what are yourt thoughts
i am not a PC gamer have PS3 for that mostly to be used for photo's ( not processing / rendering etc ) and music and net surfing
want as much space for storage as am about to transfer all my CD's to FLAC files which I believe are memory heavy. don't need high quliaty sound output nor screen. -

Leaves you plenty of cash for another HDD.

the 2.1Ghz signifies processor speed ?
how much faster would a 3Ghz be than a 2.1 Ghz is it a linear things or does a processor speed which is double mean it is 4x or 8x as quick ? -
• #147
Not linear I am afraid. You can have a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 that is ancient in comparison to a quad-core hyperthreading 2.8GHz i7 CPU.
In this example though that PC is very good value for money.

MSI's website is fucking terrible. Just saying.
Ta spots, though I'll reiterate: There's a decent budget + I'm not paying so will probably opt for something new.
Contemplating an HP Elitebook 8760 or 8560 at this stage.
Alienware look fugly and would immediately identify me as a twat.
I don't have the patience to navigate the MSI website to see what they produce these days.
I'm kinda tempted to buy another ssd and stripe them they're only £100...
