  • That's exactly what I am planning to do with my Halfords CX bike to be honest.

  • I did some half-assed Scotchbriting to finish it. Didn't wax or clearcoat it though. Stripping the paint off of the forks to get it to 'raw' carbon doesn't seem like a good idea to me / most people. I will most likely eventually paint them black though. The chain is pink because it was £10 cheaper than the other colours / non-coloured ones of the same type. The coloured rear tyre is disappearing later this week as it was only on as a temporary tyre.

  • I find it very silly that they have rails which allow you to easily break the saddle then. Nice design flaw.!

It's not a design flaw. That's why saddle rails have a little guide on the side to show you the clamp area, like so:

Mounting the saddle outside of that area subjects the saddle to forces beyond the design parameters due to the effect of placing weight either too far fore or aft.

It would be a design flaw if they said you could mount it anywhere, but they don't for this very reason.

  • Paint is not structural- sanding the forks won't hurt them.

  • It will if you sand it all the way down to the carbon and fray the weave. But yes, taking the top layer off won't affect strength at all.

  • you merely have to scuff the surface of the current paint work. Clean, then do lots of very light layers of the new colour.

  • wait, so you stripped the frame, but not the fork?

    le sigh

  • No polishing or new/stripped fork yet. Got a new stem, chainring and tyre. Found a nice set-up for the bars so that the tops are at a nice height for casual riding / maintaining speed and the drops are deep enough to get down low and put in some big power. Feeling good. It's just a shame the steel drops added about 400g to this build!

Sorry for the shoddy picture quality!

  • can't see the pic...

  • jantily angle...

  • Uploaded it on a different image hosting site. Can you see it now?

  • A MacBook isn't a good device to take high quality, well angled shots. I try my best!

  • ah yeah, works now.

I like the frame, it's turned out really nice. I've just bought a dolan pre cursa frameset as a bit of a beater project but think I'm going to nitromors it down too and see how it turns out! This inspired me!

    I wasn't talking about the picture;

. lower your seatpost and level your saddle.

Level your saddle, go for a ride then see how much it hurts and lower it slightly.

Saddle angle like that usually indicate it's set slightly too high.

the saddle should be level with the floor.

why is the saddle so slanty?

  • HA! It is level now. It only looks like that because you mind takes the toptube as horizontal, when it isn't. I'll take a picture of it against something which has a horizontal line to it. It's only a few degrees pointed down - if any!

The Dolan Pre Cursa have a much smaller headtube length than the Vigorelli (130mm vs. 150mm of the 54cm), I too ordered one, hasn't ridden fixed for a long time and it been bothering me.

Mind you I'd go for the Cinelli had it not been for the fact they cost a little more than twice that of the Dolan, still don't mind having a couple of spacer to fit better on the Dolan.

  • I have also bought a pre cursa (again)

  • Not as slanty as it first appears, eh?

  • This cinelli is in a different league really, bought my pre cursa for 50 quid!!

Just think the tube shapes are a little similar and look good stripped down.

  • I have also bought a pre cursa (again)

I'd have gone for the Dolan Seta with it's longer headtube, but £600 I definitely do not have.

Actually looking at the price, the Seta is only £100 more than the Vigorelli, huh.

  • And you can get rid of all the disgusting decals. As soon as my PC gets chipped to fuck I'm going to have it stripped.

Edscoble - the frame your mate stripped, do you know how he did it? Might try to get mine blasted with something softer than sand. They do plastic bead blasting etc.

  • Look guys! High quality photos!

I want a better front wheel.
